Who would you play instead then? SWP? Ballotelli? I still think hes our best option at the moment..

A rock, a lump of drift wood

He has all the potential in the world but at the moment he is so erratic. I dont honestly know what has to be done to help him along but it has to happen and soon

Played a big part in 3 goals last night and also made the chance in which Silva hit the bar. Clearly contributed to the result in a big way. Some people see what they want to see.

C'mon, Balotelli is clearly the better player. Have you seen his shots when he cuts inside? I mean this literally, didn't see anyone better than him at that in the whole of the premier league. AJ's success rate is much more sporadic. Although, His dribbling ability is very accomplished.

SWP? Hmmm.... pre-season suggests he's sharp. I'm not too sure. Hope he stays and gets at least some starts.

Don't get the obsession with AJ at all, just don't get it. A hand in three goals, he'd done nothing of note before the first goal, a goal he should have actually scored. The second goal was a nice pass to Richards, but the run made the pass blindingly obvious and the third, Dzeko put Aguero through, if we're going to trace it that far back to applaud AJ then it won't be long before Hart is getting assists! Aj is a great sub, something different to introduce against tired players, but a starter in a top side he is not, never will be. In my opinion, Mancini's opinion and Capello's opinion anyway..

Adam Johnson has never been and never will be a left winger.
He was a left winger at Middlesbrough and has played their a few times for us.

Balotelli has done nothing yet to prove he's the better player.

I've always stuck up for AJ, but thought he wasn't as effective towards the end of last season. Last night he was class though, involved in three goals and created more chances too. Whether he's on the right or left, he always gives us that width that we need at times and is a very key player.

Anyone calling him after last night needs to watch a new sport.

Completely disagree with the OP. AJ's best moments, for me:

1. Squared ball for Silva hitting the crossbar: cutting in from the right onto his left foot
2. Shot leading to the first goal: cutting in from the right onto his left foot
3. Through ball to Micah: on the right, the fact that he's left-footed created the angle for the pass.
4. Backheel to Dzeko: on the left.

So 3 v 1. And the thing is, that 1 good moment on the left didn't have to be on the left, it was a straight backheel. There was nothing in it that suggested 'I am a better player on the left'; he could have done it as effectively anywhere on the pitch.

In contrast, Johnson would not have been able to execute the first 3 moves from the left; that is, the fact that he was on the right was crucial in him attempting the pass or shot.

It seems so obvious that he's better on the right.

Noticed that adam johnson hasn't been mentioned much from last night but since he went onto the left wing, he was simply brilliant. Got involved in the play for the goals and looked a quality player again.

You could argue he setup the first goal from the right but thats pretty much all he did.

I would personally like to see him a little more on the left as we all know he still score goals from there, e.g Salzburg.

Thoughts?

Don't know what game you watched.

thought he actually quite poor.

should have started Balotelli instead of him.

he shouldn't start at Bolton.

I'm personally in the Pro AJ camp, I think he did well last night and contributed a lot to the game. Also I thought the fact he seemed to pass more than take people on helped the team and showed he's got more to his game.

Still, I don't expect him to start every match but against the lower teams I think he should as he's certainly good enough for it. 'Bigger' matches he's more of a impact sub.

Side note: Does anyone else feel like he's becoming/acting more of an all round left midfielder than a winger lately? Maybe it's just me.

I actually thought he had quiet game last night.

So did i .....

wasn't all that impressed with him to be honest , overall he appearedo run into too many 'blind alleys' ........

he didn't look all that happy when he was taken off , but it my view he could hardly complain ..... he HAS to make more impact on games , or others will get in the side before him.

Hello. I'm a new member, Bosnian living in Denmark (guess what player made me join). Other than Edin needing to be among the first 11 regularly, the first thing that came to my mind is the fact that Adam Johnson needs to be there too. He is a phenomenal player. It took me a while to dig up this thread and I am surprised that not more City fans are outraged by the fact that a player of Adam's class is left out of the first 11.

The issue is mate, who do you replace? Kun, Samir or Silva? Johnson will fit in along the way but as our midfield goes the players must interchange. If Johnson can adapt then he will be quite fine.

I think it's the fact of staying consistent. His flair and dribbling is pure talent but he can be invisible for large periods of the game. Hopefully that will change with this new competition.

Hi Adam,

The problem is that you aren't as good as Silva or Nasri.

Keep training hard and don't believe your hype so much and you'll get you chance.

Cheers

No way AJ should play on the left. Out and out wingers are too easy to defend against. Look at Bale. Excellent player but his job description is encumbering. Use speed or skill to cross on the byline. That's basically it. Had he been coerced to be an inverted winger like AJ, he'd have a much more prolific career.

The thing is, despite being very skillful, his best bits of play involve trying to beat his man. Which half of the time is successful and creates a goal scoring opportunity and half the time the defender gets the ball and can play out of the back. Now the way Nasri and Silva play, they only tend to play simple balls. Which can sometimes create goal scoring opportunities less often, but also are lost to defenders less often also. And even if they are, we can get it back quite quickly as the ball can bounce off the defenders. This gives us more possesion and puts their defence under more pressure and our defenders under less. Johnson willl be good to bring on if we are having trouble breaking defences down.

Needs to stop going out in wilmslow giving it the biggun. Once he loses the Charlie act, I'm sure he will be a great player for us.
