That’s already wrong because gavi made it at the same time who was the captain in several youth categories while making the Spanish national team aged 17 while Nico G. Barely got playing time and wasn’t regarded as good enough - due to his non existent passing range. They even put de Jong as a 6 before playing him.

Whilst I love Nico G, and think he has a big future at City. Wharton is different gravy. Also with Kova and potentially Bernardo going next summer, I'd be all over Wharton already. Think it's going to be wildly competitive though as I can see LFC, United, us, Real Madrid all being in for him.

I reckon we have the best pull for Wharton. We can offer a young squad building project. I only really see the dippers as competition for him. We have space for him like you said and Rodri is not getting younger. United are trash, and I would be shocked it Liverpool have the funds for him.

I agree. I think that the way space will open up will help, I also think in a weird way all the minutes Nico G plays this season will help to convince Wharton that he can come and become a mainstay in the side even with Rodri in the squad. I also think that Wharton looks/feels much more like a natural Rodri heir than Nico G.

Honestly, I'll be fucking gutted if he goes anywhere else. Been in love with him since his Palace debut.

Liverpool quite well off in their midfield and they have other priorities in their defence. Having spent so much this window I’d be surprised to see this repeated again next year

This guy seems a worker though so could settle fast. Or not. Who knows.

In any case my priority would be a new Kompany level CB and a new fearless attacking threat.

The middle of midfield seems covered I think.

Reminds me of Stones at Everton. A player so obviously good and a case of hoping we get in there before anybody else.

Left footers always look better too. Especially neat and tidy passers like Wharton. A proper artists but with typical young, North West mentality and bite to his play.

Hope to fuck we get there before somebody else does. Regardless of who we have already, sometimes you just cant let a player pass by.

I think it says something that Palace have lost Eze right at the end of the window and don't look like they miss him. It suggests they have other players who are more important to them and how they play. I'm guessing Wharton could well be one of them.

If we can get him, we should get him.

We can't afford to give players the time they might need unfortunately. If we're going to be successful again, the midfield is vital. We have always had a dominant midfield. It evolved from the physically robust Ferny/Yaya combination to the technical dominance of Rodri-Gundo-KDB but it's always run the game.

Without Rodri we are still miles off having the dominance we need. Even with him, against Arsenal, we couldn't keep the ball. Reijnders will improve undoubtedly, but Nico is unlikely to find the physicality he needs to survive in the PL in my opinion.

Wharton has been immense for Palace, and not just against weaker opposition. He was superb at Anfield, and brilliant against us in the Cup final. He can be aggressive and press on the front foot or he can sit in. And he's got the technical ability and composure on the ball.

If it needs to be one in one out, it's a no brainer for me.

I don't see a performance against Burnley as a measure of Nico. I've seen Kovacic, Bernardo and Gundo all look fine in that deeper role against lesser opposition. Whilst we probably got the lineup in general wrong against Spurs, Nico didn't have a good game - to the extent he didn't start against Brighton and only came on late, and not for Rodri.

He's going to get time, I just feel it's going to be a cut throat summer if we want to get back to the top. We need players that are producing not those that might. I can appreciate the concerns with Wharton, he's certainly not KDB, but I think he's an excellent player who would be a brilliant addition to our squad.

If there are other positions we need to prioritise then we might not move for him - he's going to cost a lot as you say. He's 21 though - and his ceiling is very high.

Not sure what it is, but you very rarely seem have anything positive to say about City players. Are you actually a City fan?
