Re: Lets show some dignity!
I see what the OP is getting at and largely agree. As I've posted on other threads, if Ade gets a 3 match ban for the van Persie incident, then that isn't really unfair given what happened in the incident in question. And he was clearly in the wrong with his goal celebration, although given the way some similar incidents have been dealt with in the past (especially Gary Neville), we can feel hard done by if they do eventually ban him. But I'm afraid I can't laugh it off.
Sure, I've been a City fan for 35 years, and finding mordant humour in the absurdity which often follows our club around is something in which I, like many, have taken a perverse pleasure over the years. I've long been used to the idea that the slings and arows of outrageous fortune have to be borned with a degree of equanimity. I find that hard in this case, though. The way the football authorities have been and are handling the matter leaves a bitter taste, and I find it hard to see it as a laughing matter.
I've only posted on this a couple of times in the last 72 hours and certainly don't advocate the kind of bilious and embittered rants that constitute some of the more extreme postings on here about this saga. At the end of the day, we just have to take it on the chin, and I hope Hughes will use what's happened to motivate the team - to create the kind of siege mentality that's served our old friend Ferguson so well down the years. But I still think we're entitled, as fans, to feel just a bit hard done by, and I do!
