Guess where Togo are currently ranked?

71. one place below the 70th cut off. But it's the average over two years that's important

I think that might sneak it for us. In July 2007 Togo were ranked 59, but they have been as low as 90. It depends on how they work out the average. Do they take it every month, quarter, year etc?

I don't think it matters. Even if he doesn't meet those requirements, he's a good enough player to get one anyway.

Where an application does not meet the published criteria, a club may request a panel to consider the player's skills and experience. In these cases The Football Association will refer the club's evidence to an independent panel.

The panel's terms of reference are:

- To consider whether the player is of the highest calibre.

- To consider whether the player is able to contribute significantly to the development of the game at the top level in England.
Isn't there something about a player gaining a work permit if he's played x% of his country's internationals during the past 2 (?) years? If that's the case, Adebayor should breeze through the formalities.

Only if that nation's FIFA ranking averages 70 or better.

Togo: 71

Only at City.

But wouldn't that count as an appeal? That would take time.

This is the raw data from FIFA:

Date FIFA Ranking position
Jul 2009 71
Jun 2009 68
May 2009 65
Apr 2009 65
Mar 2009 91
Feb 2009 88
Jan 2009 90
2008 86
2007 72

Use your eyes! I just said its my opinion! Bloody hell this site gets worse by the day for people jumping on your back, the term "in talks" means exactly that, we have not officialy bid for him yet so how could a fee be agreed? They are talking about a figure roughly £20M thats not ITK info thats just facts.

Why should Hughes say a deal has been agreed........... He is not crazy

I think that before we are allowed to talk to another teams player permission has to be given, that being in the form of a bid as it shows intent to buy, so i would say a fee has been agreed and personal terms to have a new work permit etc so i think we are nearly there with him, also i believe that a medical could have been completed, as why would we run the risk of not getting a permit if he hasnt had a medical, as we all know it can all go tits up at that point

You might be rite buddy, but I know he defo has permission to talk to us I just dont think any deal has been agreed yet, watch this space though I have a feeling things will move quickly tomorrow, as I said before we (sports science) recieved his medical background this afternoon and we dont normaly get that unless were doing a medical for that player. We will see what happens tomorrow!

A work permit for a guy of ade skill is a formally! Plus city couldnt apply for a work permit for him unless a fee and personal terms were agreed, a work permit is a legally binding document! Without a work permit players can still play outside of the uk and in non competitive games! If togo dont match up to the fifa rankings over the two years he will get through on the grounds of exceptional talent!

Work permit is always the last thing to go through a that is a legal requirement, medicals are for the clubs peace of mind. Tevez may hold a Spanish or Italian passport as many Argentina Internationals do, as there is a non-EU player limit in La Liga and Serie A. (Juan Veron had an Italian one if I remember rightly)

for all those interested, who don't see Adebayor regularly enough to believe he is well and truly a fantastic player ...... watch this video .....

it doesn't just show he goals, but all his build up plays and his vision and assists.

i watched him a fair bit, but have missed a lot of what the guy has done, and this video (i know the whole youtube makes even Samaras look good argument) really made me understand why clubs like Milan were after him and why he is held so highly my many Arsenel fans.

anyway,

crackin watch to see what type of player we will be getting and very different to all the goals videos he has scored which really do bore on occasion

that is a great video, makes him look a bargain at 22 million! loves to cut in a la henry, superb leap on him and good in the air aswell as being skilful and fairly unselfish. top stuff.

he wont fail a work permit, almost impossible for him not to get one. far too good to not get special dispensation if he doesnt meet all the criteria.

are togo likely to qualify for the african cup of nations and world cup? i remember hearing that they are always arguing with their f.a about pay. is adebayor a hero across africa like eto'o and drogba are?

Im just saying I dont think it has been agreed just yet, normaly its all over the SSN if a bid was accepted, but as was said today a formal bid has not yet been tabled, it might just be City not telling them muppets anything (there good at that) and it has been done behind closed doors, we will find out tomorrow im sure. Either way it can only be good news! Except for me as it means ill be busy at work........
