Adebayor (merged)

Hughes is the most cautious man in the world so if he says it's at a very advanced stage then i think it's nailed on.

The Kaka deal was supposed to do be done and dusted when Hughes said 'we have a long way to go before we can even sit down with the boy'

The Tevez deal was reportedly done when Hughes said 'we are very early in the negotiation stage'

I think it's 99% done.

I'm certainly no expert on the system, but wouldn't personal terms have to be sorted before you get a work permit? Surely compensation and contract length are part of the approval process?

Only in principal. We'd have to state something like we're offering him a 5 year contract. Nothing else has to be confirmed.

But it would still be a complete waste of time because personal terms are as important as transfer fees (in fact personal terms are the ONLY important thing as far as the player is concerned. So no, I don't buy that he hasn't agreed these in advance.

Can I just make one point regarding this Adebayor dragging his heels thing. It appeared on one publications website last night, then every other newspaper added that story.

Sound familliar?

"Craig Bellamy goes on strike" was the last time that happened.

Don't read the papers, don't trust the papers on anything. At all. Never. Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever.
I'm not forming my opinion solely on a newspaper article mate.

It appears (with or without reading any articles) that Adebayor is dragging his heels. He was granted a work permit, and looked nailed on, yet he hasn't even had his medical yet!

City wanted this one done as quickly as possible for the pre-season tour of South Africa, if he wasn't draggin his heels it would have been completed by now.

That's why I believe he's looking elsewhere.
It's a £22m transfer deal. It's dragged on a day longer than we expected. The hold up could be in part down to us travelling to South Africa.

Transfers aren't concluded in an instant, they take time. Things need to be sorted out. The Premier League/FA need to ratify things and paperwork needs to be completed.

Adebayor can fly out and join up with the squad. It's no problem, he probably wouldn't take part in every friendly anyway. He's moving 180 odd miles so there are plenty of things to sort out before he boards a plane to another continent. I'd leave it a tad longer before we start with the 'he can fuck right off' posts.

Generally, you can enter into binding agreements subject to conditions subsequent (as well as precedent).

It's possible that it's all done, but Adebayor has been given a definite period (of time) in which to revoke before it becomes absolutely binding.

Everyone is having a go at Adebayour, but if this deal is not finalised it is far more likely we are fishing to get another player on board (Eto'o, Forlan, Fabiano) instead and putting pressure on than it is he is flirting elsewhere. It is also more likely we are holding out on wages than he is/

In this negotiation we are the ones with the upper hand and likely to be playing hard there are afterall far more strikers we could go for instead than there are clubs he could go to and play for a decent team and get 120k a week and could afford 25m

If there is stuff in the papers anti Ade it will be briefed by Arse or us so I would take it all with a pinch of salt!

There is no real evidence we wanted it done quickly or he is our number 1 target, he is basically one of many irons in the fire, who is to say it wasn't him and Arsenal trying to push it through quickly as they know we may prefer Fabiano!!!!

I think you have me mixed up with someone who gives a fuck what you think.
I don't need to ridicule you.
You do a great job without any outside help.

For someone who considers himself an "intellectual" you're not the sharpest are you?

Why don't you read each post from beginning to end, acknowledge that you're twat who takes some kind of bizarre pleasure from ridiculing other posters and their 'inferior' opinions, and then kindly fuck off.

I'm sure £150k ok? Didn't take too long to agree in principal.

Ade will be more than happy with his wage packet IF he decides City are right for him.

It could all be very close to being done like Hughes has reportedly said. Marwood is in London speaking with Ade's agent(s).
