Adebayor to Spurs for £8million?

Well he ran our albeit makeshift defence around a couple of weeks ago. A natural goalscorer, and with the service he will get from Nasri- Silva personally think he's worth a punt.

Seriously why get defoe? He'll just block Guidetti coming through. He really isn't that good either. He isn't great in his build up play and has to play with another striker to be effective.

Also why would Defoe, who wants to leave Tottenham because he isn't playing enough, come here to be our 4th choice striker? Ok maybe to win a title - as spurs have no chance ;)

You never believe any of these twitter ins but sorry I'm hopeful cos I don't want him coming here. I'm not turning my nose up at him because he's not a multi-million dollar striker, I just don't think it makes sense to sign him when we will only need for a six month period. If he signs Guidetti will surely go.

I agree with DH here. Defoe is not good enough for us. Ade is way better and we want 15 million quid minimum for him. Defoe will just block Guidetti coming through next year, so Im hoping this is bullocks.

from BBC:

astansell1986 on Twitter: "I'm working in Liverpool airport and have just seen Jermain Defoe being rushed into a waiting car. Praying he's going to Melwood."

I think i'd take Defoe plus £8m or so for Adebayor. In todays market, Defoe must be worth around £6/7m so thats a £15m transfer deal.

Defoe would suit our style of player better than Ade and is a good finisher to be fair. Given a chance I think he could do a job for us.

NO to defoe for me...........

He is a proper southerner.........and what i mean by that is he strikes me as a london boy through and through who would not fit in up north.

Just cant see him fitting in at City at all.

plus he is on the wane as a striker - we want up and coming guys with points to prove

it won't happen, relax folks. It is a stupid deal and he would not fit into our team. Bobby would never bring a player like Defoe in, its all hype and bull.

But selling Ade, I hope not £7-8mil. He easily worth twice that much and Spurs will be tempted to pay that much as they know its cos of his goals they are 3rd in the PL now.

10 mill done he doesn't want to be at city, but for me like i said before swop for Defoe
My thoughts exactly- Defoe would get the goals we need to win the league.

Big but, would Defoe come and not be first choice striker. I doubt it.

If they offer 8m we should take it. £8m + 8/9m pa off the wage bill. and at the moment with FFPR, £8/9m off the wage bill is pretty major.

Not sure how FFPR works on this. Would it be an advantage to City if we sold him for £18m but also subsidised his wages at Spurs. Or better if we sold him for £8m and let spurs pick up his wages in full - or doesn't it matter?

Without know the details of his contract I can only guess but wouldn't Ade would be on a better (or similar) deal with Spuds on £100k/week plus goal bonuse, appearance bonuses etc than sitting in our reserves on basic pay. Maybe he is just too thick (or too lazy) to realise basic salary + bonuses (especially if subsidised by a "cheap" transfer fee) at spurs would be equal or better than basic wage at City?

£8m is a joke, I'd have thought £12m would be fair even if still a good deal for spurs (with Spurs using £6m to subsidise his wages above their ceiling) because even Ade should recognise he is never going to get a similar contract to ours at any other club seeing as Barca, RM, rags, milans aren't beating down the door to buy him.
the transfer fees and wages of Adebayor, Tevez, Bridge, Santa Cruz, Onuoha and Weiss will not count towards FFPR if we make a net loss, which we will of course.

Just because we don't sell Adebayor for £25m doesn't mean it's a FFP loss. The £25m spent was on a 5 year contract and so a sale at the end of this season (with 2 years left) of over £10m would be a FFP profit.

I'm pretty sure it would be an advantage to sell at a higher price and subsidise his wages due to how long ago Adebayor was signed and his wages not counting against us. If for example a swap of Tevez for Sneijder somehow did happen then it would be in the best interests of both parties to not buy off each other but pay 3 year loan fees or something and each pay their original players wages.

£8m seems a little bit too little to me. I'd say Ade is about a £20m striker if on £100k/week. Given reports that he's on closer to £170k/week, the excessive wages for his 2 remaining contracted years is around £7-7.5m and so a £12-13m value would seem more reasonable (don't they already have an option for £12m?)
