Adele

In the same mould of Ed Sheeran, music has become a throwaway consumable product for the tasteless masses. You don't need to be able to sing, play an instrument or even write a song anymore. It's not about talent, it's about marketing and aggressive promotion, the industry can take Debbie who works at Greggs, work on her image, employ a few ghostwriters to write an album for her, put her on every talkshow possible to create a buzz, play her album on YouTube/tv/radio constantly and her album will go platinum. Fast forward a few years and Debbie's appeal has faded, the masses have been moved on to this years bright new thing and Debbie can't even fall back on her royalties because she doesn't own her own catalogue of hits. In the old days the music was a part of a wider movement/youth culture (punk/hip hop/acid house/Indy), musicians had done their apprenticeships and worked hard to get their music out, they just wanted to make music - not be famous, popularity was organic. These days it is just one humongous mix of background noise and advert music.
100% agree , people like Simon cowell decide who's going to ' make it ' now .

So what has any of what you have written actually applies to Ed Sheeran and Adele ?

They both can sing, one of them can play and sing, both of them can write their own songs, one of them can write songs for other people and have a hit, both make a pile of cash and not controlled by Simon Cowell types and as for styling, one was a great big heffer when she started and the other a ginger scruffy pig and still is, so not a lot to do with a pretty image really.

Of course I may have read your post wrong but it does seem to say Adele is the same mould as Sheeran and then a great big pile of nonsense that doesn't apply to the two artists in question, of course you are right that some artists take the route you have described.

Which 'old days' were these then?

There have always been svengalis like Cowell in the music business. Joe Meek, Phil Spector, Berry Gordy, etc.

Remember The Monkees? They started out as a 'manufactured' band. It doesn't make it 'background noise', nor does it make the people who like it 'tasteless'.

Kids want pop so he puts out pop, people like X Factor so he produces the show, after that the sales take care of themselves,he knows his audience as every businessman does
Adele is a very nice person with a beautiful voice, she will go on for as long as she wants,i don't think too long as she values having a normal life with her kids a lot hence we don't see her between albums

She's got a fantastic voice. Can understand why people might not be into her or a fan but to say she's shite or untalented is bollocks.
Was going to post the same. You might not like her music but she certainly sing. I'm not a fan but I do admit to liking "hometown glory"

Utter nonsense. I wouldn't go rushing out to buy her music, but to say she's shite is ridiculous. She's a fantastic singer.
