Agent Fees - City 2nd in the PL - 1/2/20 - 1/2/21 - £30,174,615

Fair play Corky , but most players earn their money and we see the result of that money on the pitch entertaining us , agents do some negotiating in their Armani suits and gold plated i-phones and rake in millions, for doing next to f*ck all in comparison. Admittedly not all agents are in Riola's league and there could be some decents ones , but leeches like Riola need reigning in.
Raoila usually just wears a hoodie and jeans or tracksuit bottoms tbf.

That’s a gross over-simplification. Without agents, players would be expected to negotiate with clubs on their own, and would undoubtedly be exploited and had over in the process.

They are a necessary evil, I’m afraid. They don't exist in a vacuum.
I can’t agree that players would be left to negotiate on their own. Any player that wants to hire a third party to negotiate with a club on his behalf should be free to do so, at his own expense. Before the days of the so called super agents, agents used to earn 10/25% of their players’ earnings. If a player signs a five year deal at say £100k a week, the agent will pocket about £2.5 million over the course of the contract. Not a bad little earner. I really don’t understand why Clubs are paying Agents as well.

You don't even need an agent, just a decent lawyer.

Until all the big clubs across Europe stop paying agents to get an advantage of signing a player, nothing will change.

Unfortunately the likes of United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich will never change the way the tap up, chase, and pay over the odds for the best players in the World.

Agents with the best players know these 4 clubs will always pay over the odds, including agent fees, to sign the Worlds best player.

Let’s be honest, if you were an agent for one of the best players in the World, would you break the Agent mould and instigate an ethical player transfer?

It’s a greedy and vicious circle that some clubs and all agents don’t want to break.

All payments by clubs to agents should be outlawed. If a player wants to pay an agent to negotiate on their behalf that is fine. But no reason for City to pay agents under any circumstances.
I think that’s perfectly fair comment, but I was responding to a post that suggested that agents fulfil no useful function, which is simply incorrect. The notion that a lad in his 20’s has equality of arms when negotiating with a company that turns over hundreds of millions of pounds a year is preposterous - and they should be entitled to employ people to conduct those negotiations on their behalf.

But if the agent is acting on behalf of the player to ensure he gets the best deal why isn’t the player responsible for paying their own agents fees? It’s madness that the club has to pay the agent. How did it ever end up like this?
