With the Krancjaer news, could AJ play his role at Spuds? Or will Bobby persevere with a move for him into the middle?
Looks like Johnson may be happy to sit on the bench and cash in his pay check than move for first team football. Not surprised really.
Manchester City forward Adam Johnson’s wages are threatening to scupper Sunderland’s attempts to sign him this summer.
Martin O’Neill wants to land the England winger ahead of next season, however the 24-year-old will have to take a pay cut to return to the north-east.
Johnson earns in the region of £85,000-per-week at the Etihad Stadium, but Sunderland’s wage ceiling is around £60,000-per-week.
And early indications are that Johnson would be unwilling to take such hit in his wages.
Nevertheless, O’Neill is still keen to pursue a move for Johnson and could look into the prospect of loaning him if a permanent deal is not financially viable.
Johnson only signed a new long-term deal contract at City last November but has fallen out of favour with manager Roberto Mancini.
Sunderland have already contacted City about their interest in Johnson ahead of the new season.

Good question as he was hardly playing great when we gave him his new contract halfway through the season, his wages doubled or tripled and I knew then it'd make it hard to sell him when his time at City was inevitably up. Now comes the problem where the richer clubs probably aren't interested in him anymore and clubs about his level like Sunderland and Everton can't meet his wages.

Bale isn't on big wages for a player of his level and Spurs have offered him £70,000/week. We'd go over £100,000/week for him I reckon.
I think Johnson wants to play, if he thinks he don´t have any future here he´ll probably leave which I hope he do, probably the best for all parties involved. I don't know about anyone else, but he looks heavier to me than he used to. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who takes care of himself. I think this is the main reason he's lost his pace. Ever since that ankle injury.

He's a drinker, it's very obvious just by looking at him and this is why the club has almost or maybe now has completely given up on him. He looks very unhealthy for a footballer and whatever pace he used to have (he was never a speed merchant but used to have some pace) seems to have gone, he must be one of the slowest wingers in the league now. English football in general needs to start raising more young players better, too many top English players are morally bankrupt and too many promising English players turn to the booze and bad lifestyle so never fulfill their potential. Look at Jermaine Pennant, he had the natural ability to be world class but has ended up more or less a journeyman decent winger with a bad lifestyle.

Huge wages, chance to win Premier League & Champions League, why not?
Johnson will stay for another year for both City and himself to see if he can cut it here. If he is not doing it here, then he will move on, because the '13-14 season is the pre-World Cup season, and he will want to be playing regular first team, top flight football.......if he can find it!

Not sure how I feel about AJ at the moment. The whole scenario strikes me as odd.
He has scored some great goals for us this season (Stoke, Norwich, Blackburn, Wolves, Villa) and none of those were easy goals to score. Not to mention, we know he has the ability to be a good winger in his locker somewhere.
What I can't get over is that, it's seemed pretty obvious he is leaving for a while, however, only in November Bobby offered him a new contract worth 70k (If you believe the papers). If there's one thing we can say for Bobby, it is that he plans for the long term. So many of his purchases have been young talented men with very often, something to prove. Whether he had a hand in the Johnson transfer is open to debate but, we know Johnson is cut from the same cloth as players he generally likes.
Anyway the reason I say all this is because, I have a sneaky suspicion that we will see a lot more of Johnson next season. If we bought Bale as well, we could potentially see "Plan 1" be Silva, Nasri, and Yaya taking it down the middle with width from the full backs, and "Plan 2" be Bale and Johnson on the wings, or a combination of the two.
Who knows, but we've seen a few players look like the door will be shown to them and then they've come back to prove their worth. (Lescott, Richards, Barry (?), Balotelli (?)).
I get the feeling Bobby's biggest fear with Johnson is that he'll throw it all away. Obviously I don't know Johnson personally, but if the papers are to be believed he sounds like he likes a night out. Hopefully he can get his head down and show his true potential next season, because I reckon if we sell him, we might just regret it!
