Just that he was inspired by this ?

He recorded an english version but Paul Anka had already secured the rights so he couldn't use the melody so he wrote life on Mars using the same chord sequence but with a different melody.

One of the best albums made but not the best from Bowie

A cracking record, which I was listening to shortly before his death as it happens. Far from his best though. His peak was Low (probably my favourite album by anyone ever) with other honourable mentions going to The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, Station To Station and Heroes. Oh and Diamond Dogs. And Scary Monsters. Oh and Young Americans.

My first Bowie album. Life on Mars is one of the most incredibly beautiful songs ever written.
