Album of the Year Thread - 2022 - Winner - For the Sake of Bethel Woods - Midlake

Arrived today as good as the reviews said, not a bad song on it.

Bullseye for me, it's lyrically clever, poppy and heavy in a fresh way not generic, melodic and mixes styles

Already listened to it more than once.

Sorry for not making an extra Grammy Thread

but

Emily Bear who composed the music to the Man City Premier League title video

won a Grammy with Abigail Barlow ...Best Musical Theater Album...beating Andrew Lloyd Webber....

I doubt it will get much love on BM but I think the new Chili Peppers album is cracking! Looking forward to seeing them at Old Trafford cricket in June too.

Listened to the Wer Leg this morning, was better than I expected based on what limited stuff of theirs I’ve heard. Will reserve judgement though for another listen.

After a great Midlake gig last night I also listened to the Jesse Chandler solo album they were plugging. Going under the name Pneumatic Tubes it’s called A Letter from Treetops. Mainly instrumental, I’ll also reserve judgement on this. Might need a few listens to fully appreciate

Glad you enjoyed the Midlake gig - not bad as you hadn't heard of them a few weeks ago! A definite positive from this thread.

I'm afraid I can't be as positive about Wet Leg as others. On one of the few songs they aren't dropping expletives every other line, they sing "On a Chaise Lounge" about 500 times. Great, well done. 36 minutes seemed like 36 days listening to this, it's a miss from me.

Ryan Adams' Chris is a funny beast. Sure, it's not up with his best and at 19 songs it's a little long (although most of the songs are short). But I did enjoy it, and in the context of this thread, I could see it being in my top 20 come the end of the year, so I'll mark it a tentative "hit". I like the sound of his voice and the mainly acoustic approach.
