Album you wish you were hearing for the first time.

A mate in work was collecting vinyl again. He's early forties and asked which one I'd recommend of what was on offer in Golden Discs one day.
I said if it was me I'd go for 'Dark Side of the Moon', which wasn't exactly cheap but it was a special cut. Really heavy vinyl. I'd say the sound would be perfect.
Couldn't believe he'd never heard it but had read the hype regarding best albums of all time.

I asked him several times in the last couple of years what he thought, but he hasn't taken it out of the plastic. What a waste.

If ever there was one album I wish I was experiencing for the first time, that's it. Perfection.
If it wasn't for punk I may well of chose DSOTM. I used to like to smoke a spliff and lay on the floor with a pair of wharfedale speakers about 12" from each ear. Every time I heard different subliminal sounds. Fuckin' awesome album. I don't need to have a spliff anymore to enjoy listening to Floyd.

for me its a easy one THE JAM setting sons

220px-The_Jam_-_Setting_Sons.jpg

Side one
  1. "Strange Town"
  2. "Saturday's Kids"
  3. "Little Boy Soldiers"
  4. "The Eton Rifles"
  5. "Girl on the Phone"
  6. "Heat Wave" (Holland-Dozier-Holland)
Side two
  1. "Smithers-Jones" (Bruce Foxton)
  2. "Private Hell"
  3. "The Butterfly Collector"
  4. "Burning Sky"
  5. "Thick as Thieves"
  6. "Wasteland"
all the tracks minus heat wave can truly stand up today and "The Butterfly Collector" is so modern it could have been written last week

So you finally got what you wanted
You've achieved your aim by making the walking lame
And when you just can't get any higher
You use your senses to suss out this week's climber
And the small fame that you've acquired
Has brought you into cult status
But to me you're still a collector

There's tarts and whores but you're much more
You're a different kind 'cause you want their minds
And you just don't care 'cause you've got no pride
It's just a face on your pillowcase
That thrills you

And you started looking much older
And your fashion sense is second rate like your perfume
But to you in your little dream world
You're still the queen of the butterfly collectors

As you carry on 'cause it's all you know
You can't light a fire
You can't cook or sew
You get from day to day by filling your head
But surely you must know the appeal between your legs
Has worn off

And I don't care about morals
'Cause the world's insane and we're all to blame anyway
And I don't feel any sorrow
Towards the kings and queens of the butterfly collectors

And you just don't care 'cause you've got no pride

Two albums that id love to hear for the first time again:

GnR - Appetite For Destruction.....blew my mind as a kid, sounded so exciting and dangerous
Charlatans - Some Friendly...basically changed me from punk/skater kid to indie kid :-)

The start of these albums grabbed me instantly....

I couldn't wait to get home and put the head phones on for Brain salad surgery ELP and coming home with Quadrophenia, bell boy, love reign , can you see the real me. Happy days.
