Great. If and when I get to Oz, I'll give you a bell and you can ferry me around all the boozers ;)

Yes. Throughout my 20's I put it down to just that.. being in my 20's. Now being 37, that excuse is wearing thin. I rarely get to the state where I can't stand or anything, but I drink most nights and if I miss 2 I just have to have a drink.

I'm just glad I hate spirits or I'd probably be dead.

I work/live on ships (freighters) for 6 months a year in what would be classified as the coastal (Great Lakes) trade. Alcohol is not allowed, period. Since the Exxon Valdez fucked it up for all us sailors, things have changed. Having said all of that, a zero tolerance scheme is detrimental to people. .

i work in shipping mate, good to hear someone else on here does.

In the last few years of operations, ive had 2 drunk masters! both times had to helicopter a captain out to the ship as no one else on board could take over.

It must be hard/tempting for the crew to go into town and have a few beers, especially when a ship is stuck at port for a few weeks or even months some cases.

cant they even drink when they are ashore? thought it was banned just whilst onboard, blimey

No
Yes
No

I could give up drink, but I don't want to, I enjoy it.

I got told when I was 19 to give up drinking as my liver was beginning to resemble a lump of coal.

I stopped for just short of 9 months, started drinking again, just less, never had an issue since. With the exception of the time I got pissed, locked myself out the house and got woken up my the neighbour the next day.

I was bollock naked on the kids slide in his garden.
