Aleix Garcia

Which will happen. A quick look at Vinnies starts over the last 3 years reads 26, 28 and 23.
Which is where your third CB comes in. If you're balancing nearly equally 4 CBs, that means one is playing like shit every game. Even if one of your first choice gets injured, his partner should still play at least 40-45 games because he should be a constant or close to it.

I think there is a very real possibility that we could play with three centre backs in Europe, with width coming primarily from our full backs.

This will allow cover for the back line, whilst allowing our midfielders the chance to bomb forwards more often without leaving us exposed.

Anything that takes the defensive responsibility off Yaya and allows him more runs at the opponents has to be worth a shot.

----------------------------- Hart -----------------------------

Kolarov--------Otamendi------Mangala--------Zabaleta

--------------------------Kompany----------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------

------------------De Bruyne-------Toure--------------------

------------Silva---------------------------Sterling----------

----------------------------Aguero---------------------------

Either way, the depth and quality of our squad allows for a multitude of formations and styles. I wouldn't want to play us, put it that way!

Inspired by Pulis?

While that may work, surely it would be suicide to experiment with such a radical change to our defensive set-up with no practice, especially with such an important game up first. We should only do this if we're willing to also play the same formation in League matches first, no?

I'd assume they'd try it in training first!

Look, it works on Fifa. What more do you need?

Pellegrini says he doesn't like it because he likes 'technical players' & centre backs are not 'technical players'.

The next guy after him may find that different as our academy produced defenders are 'technical players'.

Watched him play for the EDS v Bolton last night. Played in central midfield in a holding position. Certainly has a nice touch and a pass in him. Hard to assess anyone on one game but he looks quite tidy.

Pellegrini has already said he doesn't like using a back three, said he tried it at Malaga.
