Aleix Garcia

The glass is half empty then?

Pragmatic really. He's not shown any faith in the kids at all, and despite the big fuss made over them joining the first team, lopes and denayer are headed out on loan again.

And Denayer has no future with us unless VK, Mangala or Otamendi are leaving in the next 12 months. He's not going to come back, and be fourth choice is he?

What reasons do we have for being optimistic about the academy players making it into the first team?

It's because both value the trait of a player being proven over a player being good enough - if a player is proven at the right level then it goes without saying (or should) that they are good enough so you get both requisite traits and less of the gamble. At this level we simply can't afford to allow one player to learn from their mistakes because those mistakes could place our future as a top-level club at jeopardy. When the difference between winning the league and coming second can be +6GD (as we have witnessed) and the difference between coming first and second can be the catalyst in a club losing confidence and sliding down the table, possibly not to return easily if at all, then you have to treat every goal scored, let alone every point won, as a potential make-or-break moment in the club's future.

At least, that is why some managers/clubs simply can't afford to play youths. Not sure if I agree, and I'm certainly not sure that I'm happy for it, but that's what causes the reluctance.

I would also make the point that we are buying the best players in the world now and our young players need to be able to match that standard. Any young player need not only to be one of the best players in the world (or potentially) for their age group but also one of the best for many a year. I haven't seen enough eds or u18 football to know whether city players are head and shoulders above their rivals, never mind the best in a few years.
The odds are stacked against players. Take goalkeeping, there are 2/3 English goalkeepers good enough for City at best. That's 2/3 between the ages of 20 and 35, or one in the whole of england every 5 years. I realise we are buying from further afield but the same mathematical chances apply. How many left backs will be produced by british clubs over a 10 year period that will be good enough for our aspirations? And how many will come through our system? I'm afraid the odds are stacked against any one player as they need to unbelievably talented, committed and lucky enough to get the right opportunities.

we are never going to have a young player play for us then, there are barely any young players who are world class at 18/19/20 unless they get games and develop right then there is no hope. players like denayer, roberts would have got chances elsewhere pellegrini just doesn't give youth a proper chance.

Roberts hardly started for a struggling Fulham side in the Championship. He'll get chances if/when he's deemed ready. Denayer will go out on loan for game time. They will all get their chances when they are ready.

Talking about Denayer, for a CB he is still very young and I understand the club want to build on the progress he made last year by simply playing games. To me that's more important than to give him hardly an opportunity at City this year. Playing somewhere else even enhance his chances of being in the Belgium squad at the EC2016. Demichelis will be gone next summer and that to me seems a perfect time for Denayer to step in. Simply look at all the top teams and the age of their CB's.

As for this Garcia-lad, it's a bit like Roberts, Unal and Faupala. Somehow our scouting team think they have something worth looking at with the gamble of things not working out. Policy means we get these players on board and sort out a plan for them to develop and see where it gets them, either going on loan or play in one of the youth set-ups. If one of those saves us the money we paid for Sterling it's a succes. If not the player himself still might make a career somehwere else. With young players it's nearly impossible to tell when the breakthrough is coming. Some are very early pacesetters, some grow steadily and become at their best later on. It's simply up to these lads to try and grab the opportunity we give them. Getting through one, just one player per year from the academy that turns out to be a regular starter in the end is massive. Itjust tells you how few youngsters will succeed in the end, no matter how taletented they are at a young age.

We are in no position to give youngsters their debuts whenever possible or just to try and please fans, media or whoever. Do the likes of Arsenal, United and Liverpool play youngsters from their academy nowadays? They maybe play a few games, and look where it gets them. Other PL teams play youngsters, but they are not really challenging for the top 4 places. Pretty sure when Stones moves to Chelsea he will hardly feature, if at all.

It isn't actually true that our young players need to match the best players in the world.

We have scores of players playing at City n recent seasons, who do not fit that description, many of them title winners. The same could be said of Utd, throughout their successful period.

The bar is being set far to high regarding young players at City imo. Liverpool just got a result at Arsenal with an 18 year old central defender/right back, playing at left back. He was no worse than 70% of the games Kolarov & Clichy have played in their City careers.

Denayer for instance is miles better than him. Gone.

We lack botlle in this area.

"Denayer for instance is miles better than him. Gone." Based on what? Gomez had a fantastic season in the Championship and is a left back. Much less pressure than CB

To state a fact would require evidence. Or your argument just looks bias and immature. I'm sure an Everton fans would tell you Tyias Browning is miles better than Denayer fact. As a rag would McNair or Blackett.

What fans forget, it's a squad game, if you leave out senior pro's for 20 year olds, how do you think they'd feel? Time will come for youth, we are still building and our best youth players are still a little young.

We are very risk averse because the management are not emotionally attached to the club.

Based on Denayer being cb for Belgium for a start.

And Gomez isn't a left back, so you have no idea about the subject.
