Aleksandar Kolarov - 2016/17 performances

I genuinely cant see where the praise comes from?

He often invites pressure, and problems, with his backwards or sideways passing, frequently into the feet of a team mate who is already being pressed, and he constantly gives away school boy fouls - his all round decision making is generally piss poor.
Add that to the fact he looks like he's running in treacle, has a turning circle bigger than a double decker bus,and it really does make for a very poor footballer.

I cant wait to see the back of him.
I think we all have blind spots where certain players are concerned - they can either do nothing right or nothing wrong in our eyes. And while I think that it's possible to defend quite a wide range of opinions on Kolarov, you seem to be well outside that range. Most posters are probably as guilty where other players are concerned, but it's noticeable that you seem to take every opportunity in multiple threads to criticize the guy.

As always, it's not what we think, it's what the manager thinks that matters, and he seems to rate Kolarov pretty highly, at least compared to our other defensive options.

Yep,youre right,if its relevant to the thread, and i believe he deserves criticism,i'll waste no time in giving him both barrells. In fairness,i have also given him credit where its due,its just not very often he provides me with the opportunity.

Like you say though,he seems to have Peps faith - my BP will just have to cope for a while longer.

Not sure which kolorov you watch but some of his passing today in to the forwards was excellent

I find your comment about Kolarov passing to players who are marked a bit strange. We pay world class prices for world class players who can handle the ball when under pressure (or should be able to).

Of course they should, but it doesnt alter the fact he often puts teammates in awkward and dangerous situations when an alternative, and safer, option would be a better choice.

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that AK continues his recent run of good performances (since the mistakes at Anfield).

I think Pep will have his eyes on replacements but he needs to get the best out of Aleks until
at least the end of the season.

I admire the way he compensates for his faults by drawing cheap free kicks from opponents and by committing professional fouls to defuse problematic situations but never gets red carded.

Well, he could have simply headed it back towards the keeper...

If it's on MOTM later I'll have a rethink, but I remembered the ball was directly overhead and he couldn't have possibly controlled header it back to the keeper with two Swansea players close enough to give it a good chase. I remembered at the time it was the only option to clear it back up than send it down to the keeper with a flying header.

Reads the game well wins 99% of headers sure he had a few passes go astray but he is a good centre back. He be here next season pep loves the guy.

The amount of times Gabriel come to show for the ball only for this guy to look at him and ignore him and turn and play the ball backwards. I lost count. He must be so frustrating to play with.

MOTM performance? Steady on. He had a fairly solid game but is hugely one footed and he slowed down play on lots of occasions when we need to breaking out fast. John Stones is willing to drive forward with the ball and Aleks needs to do this too. Didn't put a foot wrong but MOTM is stretching it a little.

Kolarov was coming forward far more than Stones today. If there is space in front of him, he'll run into it and then look for the pass , where as others just look for a square ball regardless of how much space is in front of them.

I thought he had a solid game today. But was at the match with my dad who thought he offered nothing and is too one footed. That said if Kolarov put in a world class performance he wouldn't give him praise, nor would others on here I am sure.

The way we are set up by Pep is to get Kolarov on the ball in space, he is constantly the one free to bring it forward. I actually don't like him at all as I think he is always capable of shocking errors and poor positioning - fairs fair though he played well today and helped nullified Llorente. Only play him as a centre back but please not a left back.

Made over 100 pasess today and completed 91% of them.

Had a cracking game.

Stop it. People can't and don't wanna see this. Still many on here look to find the minor mistake to try and keep Kolarov the scapegoat. They honestly are sick to death seeing Kolarov playing a great game as a CB week in week out. They rather choke than eating their words.

Our own players try to avoid Clichy getting the ball. The opponents try to do everything to make it happen. Unfortunately playing Kolarov CB gives Pep no other option than playing Clichy LB.
