Perhaps, but Parliament being in recess does not mean Government stops. There have been multiple comments today both on the news and in committees that things are just not happening and this situation has been worsening.

The committees are talking shops. The civil servants make all the decisions in reality and the ministers just rubber stamp what they are advised and take the credit or blame. The ministers haven't much of a clue about their portfolio normally, and are only responsible for that area for a short period of time, that is why the Permanent Secretary is so important.

In charge, perhaps, but I get the impression that nobody is actually running the country. Stories of civil servants having no ministers to make decisions, so government is grinding to a standstill.

This is at the crux of it right now.
The government machine is spending more time managing the fallout and endless crises (that it has largely brought on itself) than it is governing the country.

Fucking scandalous that this should be allowed to go on.

I see parallels with Johnson and my dad, lamentably.

My dad, born into abject poverty, incredibly intelligent, made his fortune by taking risks. An inveterate gambler. Like one or two of the protagonists in the Deer Hunter, he became addicted to the feeling of taking a crazy risk and it coming off. tbf, it has to be so seductive.

This addiction meant my dad taking reckless decisions in his dotage, and kidding himself that he was still invincible because of the calculated risks that had paid off previously.

It was tragic to watch at times.

The Prime Minister is like my dad. Johnson is addicted to taking risk and getting a positive outcome, and like any other addict, he needs help.

I was going to post something similar. At this stage, my Dad would not listen. And go on to make a petulant fool of himself, for the sake of it. Same as me. There's been occassions where the blinkers have come down. No one could talk sense to me.

It actually needs the right message, from the right person. Boris doesn't have that. Someone who can tell him, look, actually, the way to do this, is to realise, the country needs it, the party needs it, it's not just about what's right for you. Of course you can fight. Or you could realise that it's that unlikely, people will just see what you do in this time as mixture of toddler tantrum and a hopelessly naive parent preventing anyone from stepping in. The upside of being an adult, being you get to choose this moment to say, I did the right thing, and put my silly needs aside for the sake of everyone else.

Can he get to that moment? Stanley's an interesting one, isn't he. "My Boy Doesn't Lie!" Sounds like they might be a pretty fragile pair. Like the myth is bigger than either of them.

I’m a little puzzled as to why a raft of MP’s, who kept him afloat less than a month ago, have suddenly had an epiphany though.

I think it's him doing the same thing with the pincher news as he did with the partygate - lie, deny, throw others under the bus with changing stories etc. It's just shown he's not learnt any lessons from partygate and prob never will

I get that, but he’s been sacked for lying as a journalist ffs. Twice. He’s behaving no differently today or this month than he’s behaved on almost any day or month in his life. They elected him leader, then people elected him and his government, whilst he behaved as he’s always done.
In some ways, he must be somewhat confused as to what’s happening, given every day is like yesterday for him.
