The government have made mistakes for sure ... I’d have kept us all locked down for Xmas and I think he dropped a huge bollock lifting everybody’s hopes but we are where we are..

It didn’t take a genius to see what was coming today and I (for one) didn’t really expect Christmas to come and go without pain.. my missus was keen to see our sons because (despite being relatively well now) she has Lumphoma and we need to take every single chance we get to make memories now but despite this I don’t feel real anger for Bojo.. Id feel sorry for anybody who had to make these calls...
Sorry to hear about your wife’s condition, and really hope you get to see your sons soon.

I agree that Johnson and the government are in an unenviable position, and as I’ve said before I wouldn’t like to have to make some of these calls. That doesn’t absolve them of responsibility though, and it’s utterly futile/irrelevant to try and blame Labour for the position we find ourselves in.

It’s just an absolute nightmare that we now have the most incompetent government in living memory at a time of the biggest crisis we’ve faced since WW2.

It wasn’t supposed to be the sentimental card being played Ric but thanks for the comments... All I meant was we’re all suffering here, some more than others but it’s really not the time to be bitching and blaming each other but a time to pull together and get through this shit...

Humour me... how is that fleecing us all?

I don’t know enough to comment on the contracts and who got them but assuming you’re right, somebody was going to do well out of the pandemic so (unless the contracts were agreed / negotiated to be in excess of the going rate) some fat cat was always going to get even fatter.. these are subjects that need to be investigated independently and I assume have been or will be?
Maybe giving the contracts to companies that deal with PPE for a living is a start. Not a mate with a pigeon company. Or a mate with a finance/property company in Mauritius. Both happened. Incredibly.

And then act surprised when the stuff they provide is shite and unfit for purpose.

So, I feel a little fleeced to be honest.

Sorry, I honestly didn’t see it as a sentimental card, but no offence intended anyway.

Agree that times are shit for everyone, and that it’s easy to dig out the government but their decisions have to be held accountable, now more than ever. It’s not the time for partisan politics. If it was a Labour government making these mistakes, I’d be criticising them too.

I agree with that but it doesn't take away from the fact that this government has sent out mixed messages from the start.

"Starmer wants to cancel Christmas, we won't cancel Christmas" Are we really supposed to believe they didn't know this was coming a few days ago?
that I agree with, there's no reasonable reason for me as to why Hancock couldn't have announced this days ago and put severe restrictions on travel in the tier 4 areas.

You are falling into the Governments trap - don't start blaming it on the people for being arseholes - thats what they want us to do - the Governments handling of this has been poor from Johnson ducking out of Cobra meetings at the start to bunging a mate £150m for PPE that was useless to last minute U turns based upon an attempt to make political capital out of the situation just prior to doing the U turn. Its always been about leadership and clarity of message - both AWOL in 2020

I'll blame people who are responsible, both the government and those not playing fair.

Fair enough... Merry Christmas Ric, Stay Safe chap

Very unlikely unless they are brought through the courts. Even then, there’s not that much that can be done given this government changed the laws on procurement and diligence in part to enable them to do it in the first place.

There are legal challenges going through still though. The very fact that is happening and the government itself isnt calling an inquiry, like any previous one would have done, is just another example of how much this government shies away from any remote form of scrutiny.

Its the most dangerous government we’ve ever had for anyone that truly believes in our parliamentary processes and the rule of law.

Even more scandalous that they were allowed to win the election then... but let’s leave it there..
