India deaths per million 230
UK deaths per million 1907
Most of the funding for the Oxford research (going back many years) came from overseas governments. "We" came late to seeing it as a good idea.
Look, I don't have time to research all the (demographic) data right now, but you can't just post those figures without some context.
Covid-19 is a disease that hits the oldest the hardest. It also goes after obese people severely, too.
Due to being one of the richest countries in the world, probably top-ten or thereabouts, we have a lot of old people and a lot of obese people and even worse a lot of old
and obese people. We have a very dense population, London is a global hub and a total lockdown on the model of Australia or New Zealand was never really feasible, especially with continental Europe a 22 mile dinghy ride away.
When this pandemic first came to light my worry was for Africa, I thought - omg, they are going to suffer from this (like with AIDs), but we hardly here about any trouble in Africa - why?
Well what is average life expectancy in say Nigeria, for example, compared to the UK? I shall tell you: in 2018 it was 54 years there compared to 82 here. Hence we hardly hear of any corona surges from countries on that continent.
What about India.... well life expectancy: 69 (in 2018) so 15 better than Nigeria, but still 13 worse than the UK and therein lies the full story behind your abrupt response of:
India deaths per million 230
UK deaths per million 1907
Because as I am trying to explain, there are complex reasons for these figures and you are not comparing like with like on a level playing field. But some people just can't stop criticising this Government and covid data such as this, is ammunition, to do that. Except, when you look into it more deeply, its blank ammunition.
