How would Labour of handled covid-19 though? We will never know.

I would hazard a guess that less people would have died. Purely on the basis that we’ve done much worse than every other island nation and worse than 95% of non-island nations. The current government got everything wrong last year including late lockdowns, inadequate border control, sending infectious Covid patients into care homes, handing contracts for dodgy PPE to their mates and lying about everything. It’s hard to imagine how any other government, Labour or Tory, could have got things more wrong.

I take your point, especially the dodgy PPE contracts, but a couple of issues: the 'sending infectious Covid patients into care homes' was a disaster, but (and until the enquiry comes out, I'm speculating) on the news at the weekend it was explained that in the early days, we only had the infrastructure in place to do 2000 tests a day, when we needed many, many more. These had to be prioritised for front-line health workers, hence the care home catastrophe.

Under Labour, would that have been any different?

I am also sceptical that Labour would have locked-down the borders with more vehemence. It is one thing to say it as the opposition leader, but it is another thing entirely, to actually do it.

Typically, out of Labour or the Tories (especially with Priti Patel at the home office) who would you expect to more proactive on this (border control)? Even though, looking back on it, she/they have pretty much failed.

They have history for this of course, in years gone by was the promise to get net migration down to the tens of thousands and they never ever got close. They blamed being in the EU, but even net migration of non-EU people busted that promised target, repeatedly. But then Ed Milliband had a stone slab made with his pledges on it one of which was 'control of immigration', they just say these things to get votes, but then nothing ever happens.

Consequently the UK population in 1950 was 50 million & yet within a couple of generations its 70 million (with little to do with the birth rate by-the-way) and its climbing fast.... some people may like this, but I'm apprehensive - its not a race thing, its just about resources.

I assume you were typing this whilst the issue was discussed further: Alan Harper's Tash proposed that asylum centres become isolation units, with regular testing and I have agreed that is a good idea.

I might say (type) daft things at times, but if somone suggests a practical solution, I am not close-minded.

I think its a good idea and to move on, I will concede that locking down flights from India was done too late and its one of many cock-ups made by the Government this last 18 months.

Good to see you 'moving on' to the here and now ....

No.

Answer the question: how would you have stopped the influx of asylum seekers (mostly in boats, but not exclusively) during this global pandemic?

I bet you don't even try - you will just go back to the planes thing again and try to label me something I'm not.
What is your problem with immigrants in dinghies? They're all well under 80 so obviously (given your willingness for over-80 bodies to pile high) they're not much of a risk.

Belt and braces though - isolate them on a cruise ship until any quarantine period is past.

I could get involved in trying to refute your nonsense, but I'm calling Windrus48 a Wumrush.

Your defence of everything Tory is embarrassing. And by the way our population has increased by 6 million since the Tories come into power 2010 ?

I think it very difficult to read when somebody with such a username would vote for a Tory government and basically praise the likes of Priti Patel and her policies on people trying to come into the country.

Something doesn’t add up?

I’m talking about border control for infection control not immigration. It’s been a fucking disaster and it’s entirely down to this government. And the care home fiasco was lied about from the outset. It doesn’t cut it to say another U.K. government would have fucked it up even worse when nearly every other government in the world did better.

The people who are asylum seekers/refugees/illegal immigrants depending on your point of view are young people so yes, not likely to be a burden to the NHS, but young people who have corona pass it on and eventually to the old or clinically vulnerable. You knew this, everyone knows this.

I don't understand that last bit.

P.S. I have never said I had a '...problem with immigrants in dinghies'. This all started off when I said that at the outset I called for the borders to be shut, airports, ferry ports, even the channel tunnel - but when summer 2020 came along and I saw the reports from down-south, I realised that even if all those official methods of entry into the Uk had been closed off - it wouldn't mean owt unless something was done regarding the influx of migrants from unofficial routes.

It has since been suggested that something could have been done, namely turn the detention centres into isolation places - like the cruise ship idea you mention. I have applauded the idea.

Why do people keep putting words into my mouth (or rather txt on the screen) to try to portray me a certain way?

India is in trouble because it's highly populated with "many of the type of people Covid is known to go after". What, over 80s? Thousands coming in every week on flights while Johnson faffs around not putting it on the red list, but it's a few hundred people crossing the channel (none of them elderly) that worries you.

You portray yourself.
