Closing Heathrow, and other UK airports in March 2020 would have caused absolute chaos. But would have reduced the infection rate in the country and may have led to much less disruption than that which resulted from lockdown.

I assume you were typing this whilst the issue was discussed further: Alan Harper's Tash proposed that asylum centres become isolation units, with regular testing and I have agreed that is a good idea.

I might say (type) daft things at times, but if somone suggests a practical solution, I am not close-minded.

I think its a good idea and to move on, I will concede that locking down flights from India was done too late and its one of many cock-ups made by the Government this last 18 months.

How would Labour of handled covid-19 though? We will never know.

No we wont ..... but a few things we do know are that, had Labour been in power since 2010

The NHS wouldn't be in the state it was with

43000 nurses short
10000 doctors short
106000 back office staff short
17000 beds short

The lowest number of ICU Beds per capita in the Eu
The lowest number of ventilators per capita in the Eu

Labour wouldn't have announced the closure of ten hospitals and walk-in centres in the same month that we watched China build a hospital in a week.

Labour wouldn't have outsourced the management and supply of PPE equipment to a subsidiary of an American Postal Service with zero experience in the management and supply of health equipment ....... and then when they realised they had made a mess of it allowed the sale of the contract to a French company (despite Brexit)

Labour wouldn't have ignored the recommendations of Operations Cygnus Cygnet and the WHO and failed to maintain stockpiles of High Consequence Infectious Disease PPE (in fact the Tories failed to have any HCID PPE in the stockpile and as a result , downgraded the seriousness of Covid19 on the 29th March) If you want to look at how the Chinese medical staff were kitted up compared to ours look at the documentary 76 Days on Sky.

The first responsibility of any Government is to protect its citizens, all the Tories did was to protect their wallets.

I have to accept much of what you say, but to be fair, can we stop mentioning New Zealand and this pandemic and comparing it to Britain.

New Zealand has a population of nearly 5 million, we have 70 million and the land mass is broadly similar.

They are 4 hours by plane from almost any other significant country.

We are an hour from Europe, in a boat, on a windy day & Heathrow is like the busiest airport on earth.

Just saying.
To be fair, can you stop mentioning what Labour would have done? Unless it's a list of what Labour said we should do, Johnson said he wouldn't do, then did, then called Starmer "Captain Hindsight". Johnson is Major Sleaze, Lieutenant Liar, Colonel Croney, General Incompetence.

You must be wumming.

I'm afraid that you being new here mate, you may not yet have sussed that
you're arguing with a left wing cabal of under a dozen that have ensured no
conservative/ alternative opinions get posted. It's been reduced to this because nobody is interested in the insane mouth foaming hatred that spews forth each and every day of a group that refuses to see what's in front of them. Politics threads that resemble a Channel 4/BBC selected panel of lefties wailing and howling at the moon, with everyone else slagged off in frustration, by people who's opinions are rejected election after election, are not generally much fun. I glance at these now and again, solely out of habit, but it's becoming more infrequent lately, it's still exactly the same Corbynista tripe, long since ridiculed and shunned, repeated on a loop.
So carry on if you like mate, but I doubt it'll be for long, you've already discovered that saying one thing gets twisted into something else toot sweet, and trust me, it won't change.

It won’t just be “lefties” though, there’ll be plenty of centrists and even some conservatives that will be critical of this current government and Johnson in particular.

If you can't be critical of Boris and the Tories these last couple of years then we really do live a country of denial
