“Age has been observed as a significant risk factor for severe Covid-19 illness. Most deaths occur in those aged 65 or older. The median age in North and South America, Europe and Asia ranges from 32 to 42.5 years. The age demographic structure of sub-Saharan Africa is much younger – the median age is 18.”

And from: https://www.news-medical.net/news/2...seloads-been-comparatively-low-in-Africa.aspx

“It is well documented that people with pre-existing conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, etc.) have a higher risk of moderate to severe complications from COVID-19 infection. African countries have a low prevalence of these conditions, which might be another factor for the lower mortality rate.” (diabetes and hypertension are of course linked to obesity).

So clueless?

Yes. Yes, you are.

Find a better website for your claims which isn't a politically biased right wing website pretending to be "Liberal".

Covid attacks fat people (sorry - the obese) disproportionately and the old.

Britain has/had a high number of old, fat people.

Did Africa suffer badly from corona? No, because the people are skinny and not many get into their 80s and 90s there anyway.

Is that Boris Johnson's fault?
Stop trolling

It’s Johnson’s fault that billions were wasted on defective PPE and a useless track and trace system, and that infected people were sent into care homes to cull the residents.

It’s also Johnson’s fault that the first lockdown was 2 weeks late, the second was a month late and his fault they went on much longer than would have been necessary if he got the big decisions right.

It’s also his fault that the delta variant was imported early from India because he wanted a trade deal. People paid with their lives for each one of those decisions.

Fortunately the early vaccine rollout mitigated the effect of delta to some extent but in reality he was just 6 weeks ahead of the EU and they caught up by the summer.

Posting shit like that, cannot see you lasting much longer on here.

Why, its a valid view backed up by facts from medical websites. Does this site not allow people to discuss stuff from different viewpoints?

I bet they let me stay till at least 6pm though, so they can have some fun with me on the football threads!

I actually agree with some of this, especially the PPE issue and to some extent the track and trace balls up. But what always makes me wonder when discussing this topic is the fact people who say we locked down two weeks too late/a month too late & didn't stop people coming from India etc. never agree with this though: we didn't get channel boat crossings down to zero in 2020 and 2021, when we should have.

So even if we'd locked down quicker or banned the flights from India, it wouldn't have mattered anyway without the other thing. If they'd blocked up the big hole on the side of the Titanic but left a couple of smaller holes open to the sea, it would have still sank eventually and I think the government knew this. Unlike say New Zealand a total 100% covid-zero strategy wouldn't work for geographic reasons and unlike say S. Korea a similar, zero-covid policy was never achievable because we are not that type of society. In the early stages of the pandemic I remember reading that in S. Korea a bloke went into 3 nightclubs and then a mini-market and then was found to have symptoms. Within 48 hours thousands of people who had been in those venues were traced and told to isolate, purely because the government had their debit card details on record. We don't even have identity cards!

If our government had our debit card data and addresses, we could have done a similar thing and saved £20 billion plus on that delayed phone app too! But I ask: would you want that level of state control in your life?
