I read that and understand it, I have to accept that mistakes were made - but it was a quite unprecedented situation. I also think he got bad advice from scientists, but again - it was something new and even the scientists were disagreeing with one another about what to do and when. I was lucky that I didn't lose anyone close to me to Covid-19 but I can comprehend that anyone who did, would hold the government and Johnson in contempt - I get that.
I lost someone to COVID and when I see a comment like "he got bad advice from scientists" I think: you dunderheaded tabloid-reading gaslit idiot. That is literally the bottom of the barrel when it comes to making stupid and desperate excuses.

I can congratulate you on dunderhead - showing remarkable restraint there. I'd probably have said something that got me a threadban. I am afraid some people have no shame as they follow the chief of those with no shame

It looks like those who got fined to save Johnsons fat arse are speaking out now - it also reflects badly on the Met - not that they retain much of a reputation anyway

Every Prime Minister for the last 300 years has solicited and listened to the wide-ranging advice of many experts on every decision they have to make. Then he or she makes the decision based on the balance of that advice using their own intelligence. That is quite literally what the job of a world leader is.

Yet this one is the only one who gets away with "he got bad advice". What fucking bullshit. I bet it was in the Daily Mail. It's the same old Brexit sentiment as "Britain is sick of experts". It's gaslighting and buck-passing on a national scale.

It's sad that people can be so far down the Johnson rabbit hole that they are prepared to make excuses for him however egregious his actions and behaviour.
Unfortunately there's a lot of people like you around, which is why he gets away with it.

It’s no different to the support in Russia for Putin. It’s cognitive dissonance in its purest form. People will not accept that they’ve been conned by someone else because of the implicit implication that their stupidity was used to advance the interests of a more intelligent person.

Why are those lying fuckwits still in a position to be ruining our country?

Remember when ordinary people were being fined just for going for a walk in the hills in lockdown, which seemed a sensible thing to do; fresh air, exercise, no crowds. Yet that slovenly, conniving **** Johnson and his arse-licking lackeys get away with completely disregarding their own rules that they tried to impose on the rest of us.

Thats the sad thing that those in his thrall just don't get. They knew he was an untrustworthy liar and a cheat and assumed Brexit was not going to be as promised however the assumed that as he had charmed them he had wherewith all to charm the EU too. When he told them Mayday was fucking up Brexit they bought that too and made him Tory leader and PM. When he couldn't get a single vote through Parliament they believed it was all the fault of Grieve and Gauke and the rest and were happy to purge them from the Party and return him with a majority.

He couldn't believe his luck. He set about having his cabinet gaslight the UK whilst just not doing the thing he said he had done - Brexit - because the only place he held any sway was in the UK. So he lied to the Commons he lied to the Queen he lied to all of us he fleeced the country and got his buddies rich and every time trouble reared its head Ministers obligingly resigned and he sacked junior officials all to keep any damage being accredited to him and his actions.

Now - here's the rub. Johnson hasn't got long now realistically. The Tories are not forever and a new govt will be formed - who knows even by a party that has yet to be formed ( think Macron ) and that Party forms a govt with the new precedents having been set. Need to lie - to anyone, the Queen, HoC, anyone? Do it. You don't have to resign and there are no consequences. Cheat, give lucrative contracts to mates or break laws you have introduced. Go ahead there are no consequences. Those down these rabbit holes could be directly and adversely affected but you know what? Nothing they can do. By facilitating two years of corruption they have heralded a new low bar for standards in public life, honour and propriety.

Remember the verse by Niemoller - "first they came for...."? Its the last line they will regret

"and then they came for me and there was no-one left to speak for me"

Wonder how long the government can afford to keep gaslighting us.

Both metaphorically and physically with the cap rising again.
