On the fairness of balance and objectivity, that I pride myself on, I thought he was very good at the dispatch box today, despite some of the brushing off of certain details and his failure to be specific on the Irish border, he’s very good at orating and owning a room.

He's absolutely terrible. He's as good at dodging as Cameron and May and he'll tell lies freely and without hesitation.

What he'll be very good at is creating mini highlights for the media to get in a tizzy over with his bluster and finger wagging.

It is a stain on the nation that he's the pm.

Has to be said also that he just ignored the fact that the £39bn is now £33bn despite the lies he tells to the contrary plus the fact the balance is spread over a number of years - there is no drawer in the Treasury with £39bn in it.

Also - they are off on recess now - come back to conference season - then straight into October. There are about 100 secondary pieces of legislation that will be enacted to legally leave on a no deal - no time is being allowed for this so he either has to

a/ Tart up Maydays WA - get the backstop given a new name and have a tilt at getting it through Parliament
b/ Try to leave and face huge legal challenges from the likes of Gina Miller and the Gaukeward Squad to name but a few.
c/ Admit failure and call a GE

All the finger waving bluff and bluster points to "c" in my opinion - sooner the better and rely on the new manager bounce to win through - if he leaves it too long it will be like OGS at the swamp - good start - get the press onside then fizzle out just when he is looking to a GE

I did read that as " as good at dogging as Cameron and May " and wondered what headline I had missed ha ha ha - do they know Sir Stanloi of Cannock Chase then?

Can I ask, do you genuinely believe that the one thing that "we have needed for so long" is someone who rabble rouses and provides "genuine theatre"?

When the country is facing the most complex and difficult political situation in living memory?

It's easy to get all macho and playground when we are judging our politicians but this isn't a football match or a pub vault. It's a serious business.

In your quieter and more introspective moments, don't you honestly think that, when it comes to leadership of a country, especially in difficult times, there are actually a myriad of qualities that are more desirable than being "pure theatre"?

It’s a emotional comfort thing in part. As you say we are facing difficult times and the desire for someone to be seen to be firm or ‘taking on the opposition’ or just doing something after the drift of May can’t be underestimated.

It doesn’t do anything practical for our situation or the problems ahead, it’s more of a band playing on the Titanic moment. An illusion of normality, of control even, but it’s just an illusion. It doesn’t change anything but people will hope it does because we are pretty much out of palatable options.

It’s nothing like Junker/Tusk or even Barnier firm is it? ;-)
