I swear these people have some serious psychological problems.

That the ERG won’t vote for the WA even without a backstop is already known. Baker turned down a junior minister post just so he can keep Johnson ‘pure’. Give it a month or so and not even ‘no deal’ will satisfy them.

Except Victorian Jeremy, presumably. A bit awkward if he voted against the PM

Problem is we're stuck on a small island with them .....

Just had the new minister for policing on and he said 20000 new coppers over the next 3 years, as boris mentioned yesterday.

However the stats just given is that 20000 will still leave the police well short of numbers from 3 years ago, that that already the recomendation from the police is that 8000 officers are needed to be recruited each year to replace those that leave/retire and other factors so this promise still leaves the force 4000 short.
Lastly the police cannot see how so many can be recruited and trained in such a short period.

Seems ilhis flagship announcement is just smiek and mirrors and would have been policy anyway as standard.

Yeah it sounds great but the successful recruitment, training and then deployment of such a large number of officers in what is a very short space of time seems on the face of it almost impossible and thats before you factor in the costs both now and ongoing.

I fear it will be as ever, very London/Met Police centric as well to curb the murder rate so that claims can again be made.

Thought many of the ‘new recruits’ were to be recruited from the ranks of special constables, who are already somewhat trained, though their numbers are already down a third since 2012, which raises questions about overall staffing and quality.

On a separate point, how long does political ‘energy’ last? Vim, vigour, gusto, call it what you will, I’ll be fascinated to see if it runs out faster than the thesaurus suggestions.

My guess is that he’ll introduce legislation, let them amend it and then call an election on the basis that parliament is trying to frustrate the will of the people. I don’t think he’ll wait until he loses a confidence vote
Nah, he's playing politics of the other and trying to harden his core base while forgetting everyone else. Losing the no confidence vote and going back to the country is the option that allows him to play the victim best.

I think he prefers the role of “Corbyn slayer” to victim

Johnson will bet the house on winning a GE using the same team and dishonest methods that delivered the 2016 Referendum result for Leave. If he succeeds it's game over and there will almost certainly never be another free and fair election in this country.

This is where we are headed.
