Alexis Sanchez

Just to say, for the respect I have for Romero, Lee and others, the one journalist who carries the absolute most weight here is Maks Cardenas and everyone should pay attention when he has something to say. He is as connected as it comes for Chilean nationals in Europe and has a flawless track record on their transfers etc.

So far, Cardenas is only saying what we already know - Sanchez wants to come to us, but Arsenal are pushing hard that he should leave the league (ie, to Bayern). I concur with @BillyShears, and it certainly appears City do also, that if the player simply holds strong in the face of pressure then sooner or later he will be ours.

Sanchez has all the power here. He doesn't have to extend his contract, or go to Germany. If he wants City, then City he will have. And Arsenal can cry and whine about it til the rags come home, but it does the square root of fuck all at the end of the day. And you know what? I think they'll just take the £50m, get a few signings and weather the storm.

Spot on about Cardenas.

From an Arsenal fans perspective, I think all avenues of this deal are still open. Although it seems City are favourites, I still think there's a chance for Bayern, and still a chance Arsenal will keep him for the year.

I know £50M is a lot of money, but Arsenal might feel the best way to get back in the Champions League or challenge anywhere near the top is with Sanchez in the team. It might just be seen as a gamble worth taking.

I know there's presedence with Clichy, Abebayor, Nasri etc but Arsenal were under more financial pressure to sell then. They aren't so much now, even missing out in the Champions League isn't what it used to be. They could easily try and move on different players if they need to. What we might do is similar to what Dortmund did with Lewandowski and try and make some sort of stand. Think it depends on a few factors though.

What we don't know is Sanchez state of mind. We don't know how determined he is to push a move through. What I would say is that it doesn't seem in Sanchez nature to not give 100% on the pitch, so maybe the club considers that when we are talking about keeping an unhappy player.

I also think it might come down to what targets Arsenal secure in the market first, this might help make a Sanchez sale less of a blow and they could absorb it a bit easier. If they sign Lacazette and Mahrez for instance, we might be more inclined to let him go more than if we were scrambling about the last week looking for the next Lucas Perez.

I think like you say Arsenal's business will dictate this. If you get any of Mahrez, James or Lacazette, then i think we might see City become favourites. If it drags and Arsenal don't get them done, Sanchez may buckle and go to Bayern.

Players do care about leaving a club in shit, look at Greizmann.

I would imagine that it will be decided by which players Arsenal are able to bring in. And of course it would make sense then, to get it done & use the money on other deals.

But the wild card might be, if Sanchez was to put in an official transfer request. I don't imagine anyone there would want to keep him if he's officially asked to leave.

Players seem to be very reluctant to do that these days though.

You're quite right about his attitude. It's very very evident from his interviews that he absolutely dreads not being able to play for ANY reason whatsoever and how much he lives for football. So imo it's very true he isn't going to just stop giving his best as most on this thread opine currently.

Having said that, he's 28 1/2, and I really doubt that a player of his age feels he has years and years left in him to be patient, and will surely want to not waste his peak years not playing in UCL and not winning a trophy (for many of which City are going to be favorites undoubtedly next season). This makes me confident that he will push for a move really hard.

Don't get me wrong would love Sanchez to come to City but what is the big attraction for him to come instead of staying at Arsenal or going to Bayern? We have hardly set the world alight the last few years and have if anything turned into the new Arsenal nice to watch but don't win anything!

If Arsenal let him go to Bayern for 10 to 15m less than what we are offering Bayern could end up meeting Sanchez wages. Bottom line its how much Sanchez wants to come to us, if he only wants us it be done in the last week or 2 of the transfer window.

This after one season with a new manager, who happens to be Pep Guardiola.

I'd imagine for any player of his quality thats inscentive enough to want to play for a side. Also look at the other players we are looking to bring in and we having frightening potential for next season.

Who said he would even play, he may look and say if you dont sell me I wont play,

All of a sudden you have a guy that takes about a massive amount of your wages unhappy

What do you mean? United didn't want him anyway...

Yeah, everybody wins the title in their first season.

Nope not saying that just saying Pep has yet to prove himself and I hope he does. Just frustrates me that for a supposedly great coach he seems to have been a bit naïve and did not take the oppositions strengths into account and stubbornly played his way or no way. Conte went to Chelsea very last minute with no prep from a worse starting point and look what he did.

We should of at least won a cup last season but didn't thanks to sacking off the league cup. Pep did worse than Pellergrini !
