Maybe we’ve decided the midfielder is more important at the moment, hence the gossip about Fred and Seri?

Yeah, quite possibly. I do actually think a midfielder is more important than a forward tbh. An injury to Fernandinho would leave us in big trouble.

Oh well....

I can't be the only one who isn't remotely arsed about this surely? Yes it would have been good for him to come here, but if the club already have another striker lined up in summer, younger, hungrier and wants to come here, rather than just being desperate to get away from Arsenal then so be it.

Long term, we may have only had the budget to bring him in at 20m and whatever wage he agreed, if him and his agent are now moving the goal posts, fine, don't come! Much rather this scenario than it fucking our summer business up that is probably ongoing as we speak.

Got to hope that we are down the road with another player for the summer to let this one pass...can't see pep being happy if we loose out and especially to them wankers...deals and players of this ilk could be a deciding factor in pep wanting to extend his deal...will he feel the same as the board that the figures don't stack up?....tools for the job springs to mind

No he isn't. If we do spend that it will be someone we will get many more years service from dont you think?

He going to be top level for the next 3 years mate...and if still is at top level, we extend. Better to have proven prem world class forward for 3 years and plan for him leaving than overpaying in the summer because we'd get more years out of someone. The squad is always moving and so is the market. Couple of years, this 300-400k a week will be the norm for world class players...imho!;)

£35m to Arsenal
£10m to agent
£20m signing on fee
£20m a year in wages.

Not a smaller outlay as people are making out.
Yes it sucks to see him go to United but if we agree to pay whatever he wants, those responsible for our journey so far will be hard done : KdB or Sterling or maybe Silva who already signed extension.
We may have missed out on him but that doesn't mean we can sign someone younger for that position.
I hope Pep and Board have learnt their lessons from Laporte Alves and Sanchez saga
