Marvin was on record over the summer as saying he didn't think we should sign him TBF. There were also plenty who thought it was money being spent in the wrong area of the team. It's all perfectly reasonable, some people think he's great and are desperately disappointed, others aren't arsed either way.

No,but I'm saying IF he had come in the summer, let's face it,it's a bit of a mess all round...................but still no confirmation,I just hanging on to the final broken branch lol

When Tevez came we were all happy to Gazump the rags I loved it. and despite his shenanigans proved to be a magnificent buy who carried us further forward .I was not sat working out the pros and cons money wise its our team not our money. i would not celebrate the fact weve pleased the bank manager but i would if we won the title
Very true, but Tevez came and there was not even a question mark at the back of anyone's mind that he'd be a success. He was what mid-20s at the time. I don't think you can compare a player in his prime mid-20s with Sanchez who is at the end of his career or nearing it.

What's right, what's wrong? What are the rules in this case? Indeed, as you point out, what are the exact facts? We don't know the detail. We do know Arsenal mucked up in August (at least by general consensus) and that did City no favours. We have to wonder if City could have sealed a deal in the summer by offering Arsenal some more money and, as we have discussed, we don't know what impact Sanchez would have had if he had come to us then; we do know we have so far managed without him.

Going forward, we don't know what the outcome of him going elsewhere is going to be, and that may be unquantifiable, but the likelihood is he will benefit our nearest rivals, possibly significantly. Both clubs though can afford to buy someone else of high quality. However, yet again, we have missed out on a big name and "let" him go to a rival. For now, I have to chalk that up as a fail even though we appear to have done things as we have for good / noble reasons.

Ultimately, the fact that our club is building a way of doings things on and off the pitch as part of a clear strategy will hopefully pay lasting dividends and The Rags apparent let's throw money at the problem, without much of a coherent plan (?), will see them slowly slide back. Thing is, I have been supporting the Blues for almost exactly 50 years so I'd like more success now.

I don't chalk that up as a 'fail' at all. It would be a fail imo if we paid that much for him, a huge, comical one.

But at least it is likely a fact: that he is signing elsewhere. If people want to argue that we should have paid more for him, that's an opinion based on fact.

So many people have just made up a narrative that we just sat around & if we'd tried a bit harder, would probably have signed him. Some even calling it 'arrogance'.

The chances of that being true, are so small as to be ridiculous, we would not just 'sit around' unless we didn't want him & any club can speak to him or his agent, once Arsenal are open to bids. The word being 'bids' they are going to invite them & he can't leave, unless they accept one.

If his agent then does a deal with another club for more money, we either outbid them or refuse. We rightly, refused.

But there was no chance Arsenal were just going to accept our bid, even if it was more than 20 mil, without allowing others to talk to him.

It has always been down to the player & his agent (I still recon this is driven by the agents, in both cases, not the players).

Not only that, he managed Monaco for 7 years and they regularly spent beyond their means.

Besides that, it's not a particularly wise thing for Wenger to say when you consider how closely linked Arsenal's main sponsor is to our owner and his family.

Wengers time has been and gone...he is a busted flush who just spouts drivel.

Seeing as we ended up having to play Bernardo Silva as our "lone forward" against Bristol City and Sergio has had his most injury free season since joining us it's hard to argue that it is a position of need

You do not buy a player just to prevent your rivals from getting them. It is not a sustainable business plan. Sanchez made sense in the summer and for the right price would have this month. But his wage demands break our squad harmony as he would be on so much more than anyone else. His outlook has clearly changed. 29 year old desperate for a long contract and huge wages.

If he does play poorly they are stuck with an expensive bench warmer. If he plays well then fine, but he doesn't have a long career there and he keeps their younger players out the side to their detriment.

We have cash to go big for the next big thing that like Sane, Jesus, Sterling and Bernardo have plenty of talent now and will only get better under Pep's coaching. You look at Sterling this season and how he has improved thanks to Pep and the introduction of Walker. Mendy gives Sane the ability to also get into central areas for a more balanced attack next season.

We are top of the league and Sanchez might close the gap but it should not stop us this season. Then in the summer we can improve further to widen it. The rags have players that can improve but Mourinho is what he is, defence first and the league is not what it was when he was at Chelsea. They can compete more closely with us but we have so many players that will get better and better.

Need to get cover in defence, defensive midfield and another striker if Aguero is allowed to go. But Ederson, Walker, Otamendi, Stones, Mendy, De Bruyne, Sane, Sterling, Jesus, Bernardo will all continue to improve.

Not time to panic just because we have decided to withdraw interest in Sanchez.
