Well atleast we both agree that no-one has any evidence either way, to backup their opinion! So both sides of the coin could hold a level of truth, so just like I havent once tried to say you are wrong for your opinion(because you might be right), you are also in no position to say I'm wrong for mine. Its an argument no-one can win....You prefer to think the club can do no wrong in this transfer and I prefer to think we could have done better, as he's gone to another club. Your defense of the club is misplaced as I've never called the club once, just disagree with their actions during a transfer window based on my own personal opinion....and as thats all you've got, there is not much point carrying on this discussion.

It's an argument which shouldn't exist.

Start of this season, I thought mentality was an issue, and Sanchez definitely has that. But at this moment, I can not say that mentality is a problem. We switched off for 10 minutes at Anfield, but for the most part this season the mentality has been unquestionable.

I do agree with you that Sanchez is a leader on the pitch. A Rooney, Gerrard etc. A player in that tradition, but I think we are developing our own eg KDB.

In my opinion this is a very lazy signing by Utd. They are buying a star player, but a star player at the end of his career. I don't think we had any interest in Sanchez this season until Jesus got injured at which point we contacted Arsenal, but then withdrew when we found out Jesus was not that badly injured and that Utd were involved. We just did not want him enough to pay the money that was required and willingly let Utd have a free run at him. That's my take on it, and it's only from following the news and reading sites like this so I could be wrong. We could have been tracking him all season, which is what people on this board thought, but I don't think we were.

I'll get over it eventually, but all as I can elude to is last summer,he was nailed on to be coming to us,but they couldn't get a replacement in quickly enough, this thread would have been non existent then, and even your thoughts would have had to have been kept to yourself kinda thing

I think Arsenal fans have a problem with the money they pay to Wenger though

Arsenal formally announced on Wednesday that Arsene Wenger has signed a new two-year contract, extending his stay at the club to 2019.

Beating Chelsea to win the FA Cup final on Saturday appears to have persuaded the Arsenal board to grant Wenger his wish to continue, despite a failure to qualify for next season's Champions League.

It is expected that Wenger will earn £8million-a-season under his new terms, a considerable increase on the £500,000-a-year the Frenchman was paid when he first arrived at Highbury as a relative unknown back in 1996.

Each new deal has seen an increase in Wenger's wage and, if he sees out his contract until 2019, he'll have brought home almost £100m during his time at Arsenal.

mate, the whole point about our business plan is that we are no longer reliant on "oil money". The owners came in and put the foundations in place but its the Club (City group) that is now pushing forward as one of the biggest clubs in the world. The whole point about FFP is that a club cant get handouts, it has to be self sufficient and thats what we are today.....The rags have a short term plan but whether we like it or not, they can afford to do things that way....we have a business model that means its very rare we'll pay more than what we feel a player is worth, which means we could miss on some of the top players in the transfer market. As my comments on this thread show, I dont always agree with that approach but you have to respect it. Back to your point, its not oil that keeps us strong, its the brand and its growing from strength to strength...
Fuck me, so gullible.

Marvin was on record over the summer as saying he didn't think we should sign him TBF. There were also plenty who thought it was money being spent in the wrong area of the team. It's all perfectly reasonable, some people think he's great and are desperately disappointed, others aren't arsed either way.

Most of the great Barca side could have made more money at the top Italian clubs, Real or any if the top 4-5 in the PL.

Money is a great motivator, but if it were the absolute be all & end all, Kaka would have crawled across broken glass to get to The Etihad.

Clichy famously did an interview when at Arsenal about the abhorrence of the money we were spending. Two seasons later he was here, & only from the inside could he see that we had a determination to reach the summit of European football, & were using a period of accelerated investment to get us there.

As it now stands, the 'Free spending City who are ruining football with their oil money', stand only 4th on the list of English record buys, which would have been 5th if Arsenal had got Lamar.

Yes we've spent bucket loads, but it is now becoming clearly apparent that there was a coherent plan all along. I'm fuckin gutted we're not getting Sanchez & he will now strengthen a rival, but I hope we quickly overcome this set back & push on again in the summer with fresh targets.

The difference between Sanchez to us & to ManUre is for us he is the garnish & further strength in depth. To them, he seems like a two fold purchase. 1. It stops him from coming to us. 2. It stops him from coming to us.

Yes he will strengthen ManUre, but I said a week ago when it was becoming obvious their interest was a real threat to our bid, that this purchase seems more about Moureen trying to psychologically effect us, because all else has failed so far.

What happens if Sanchez doesn't improve their fortunes much? What then?

Moureen will continue to blame Woodward for not giving him more money. He'll claim City are only ahead of him because we've spent more than ManUre. He'll continue having a go at Conte in the hope Conte's anger with him, will distract him from the PL title chase.

And he'll continue to have a roundabout pop at Pep claiming his success is only down to oil money. His diversionary tactics worked of sorts last weekend with us losing & Chelsea drawing. My hope now is that with the chase for Sanchez being over, & after our first PL defeat, this will now concentrate our minds to redouble our efforts & fuck the bastards on the pitch where it counts.
My original post was not actually a comment to the Sanchez deal as such, but more a general observation that the cost of the biggest stars is much higher than what Sanchez gets. I also would have loved Sanchez from a sporting perspective, but I respect the evaluation of our management where they essentially say he is not worth it for that cost. But we should not kid ourselves. If we want to compete with Barca and Real we will eventually have to follow ship and pay such amounts. Otherwise we will not be able to attract and keep the absolute top players. And the next level for us is that we have a Messi-type player in our ranks. Could be KDB I think. But KDB will also want to be paid like Messi, and if Barca is prepared to pay 3 or 4 times what we pay, our best player might also consider his future.

I still think Sanchez would have been what we are missing. We need a Tevez/Suarez/Costa type figure. We are so classy and relaxed that sometimes we switch off. I thought Sanchez could inject that raw passion and aggression we sometime lack. I want somebody to go mental on the pitch when we are flagging.
One thing is us not getting him, going to them is a double kick in the bollocks. If he does well, we are going to have to suffer this week in week out.

But i have to trust in the club to know what they are doing. Too many times i have felt the club have made a mistake only to be proved wrong in the long run.
Joe Hart was my biggest reaction. I hated what the club did to him. I thought we had bigger problems in other areas of the pitch to address first. Bravo only served to reinforce that belief. Yet now we have a goal keeper that can be around for years and is a massive upgrade and will only get better and better. I know i'm being greedy, but i think i just wanted a boost of signing a big player and finally snuffing out any hope them twats have of winning anything again...

I don’t really understand how you feel that we lack passion or aggression? It may not be the stereotypical British style of lunging into tackles and running around like a headless chicken but surely the run of wins, undefeated games and last minute goals we’ve scored proves that it is their in our squad/team in abundance.

It takes far more courage and guts to continue believing you’re doing the right thing and never stopping fighting till the end than kicking someone up in the air. Don’t get me wrong I’d love to see us retaliate sometimes to tackles like Kane and Alli’s but that’s because I’ve got a short temper and that’s how I’ve been brought up but I can see now it’s better to not react and to just beat them first. They’re only kicking us out of frustration and jealousy.

When Tevez came we were all happy to Gazump the rags I loved it. and despite his shenanigans proved to be a magnificent buy who carried us further forward .I was not sat working out the pros and cons money wise its our team not our money. i would not celebrate the fact weve pleased the bank manager but i would if we won the title

You can laugh at Wenger all you like, and he does say some crazy stuff, but right now he could be the winner in all this.

As it stands they are the verge of getting decent money / a good player for Sanchez who has weeks left on his contract, and they could get Aubameyang. I would take Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan any day over Sanchez at 29. I hope Arsenal get Aubameyang as I would like to see him in the Premier League. Always wondered how he would do. We considered him last season apparently? I remember someone on here said we were buying him. Of course he's linked every year to Premiership teams and nothing comes of it, so it maybe another false trail.
