Sounds like we'll hear fairly soon if he's been playing with us for a pay rise or if he wants to come.
He couldn't be more wrong...
Sanchez won't be playing as our number 9, he's 3rd in line behind aguero and Jesus, he's also wasted there. He'll play left of the 3 with sane shifting from both flanks, depending on the opposition..... for me personally I think it's the wrong signing as I believe sane will be a revelation next year, I think he'll suffer if he's rotated too much...
Not an expert but I think Pep found out last year that the prem is a lot more difficult than maybe he imagined and if we want to compete on all fronts the squad, not just the first eleven but the squad as a whole needed a huge lift. Signing these players IMO will allow the appropriate rotation in all areas depending on players available and the competition we are in. The best way to judge a squad is take out what would be the strongest eleven and see whats left and could what is left compete eg against Spurs away or Chelsea in the premier league. Just my thoughts.I don't think Marvin is being overly ridiculous tbh. On the wing we have a lot of quality and up front we do as well. But that's not the point. A parallel argument (forgetting age) would be to say why are we signing silva when we already have silva kevin and gundogan.its all about options when you want to fight on all fronts. That means two top players in every position and so 22 top players at least in the squad. That's something we have never had before and as a result we haven't been able to challenge for the premier league and champions league in the same season. Sanchez is one of the best players in the premier league and will improve us while ridding another premier league team of their best player. It's a no brainer for me. Plus the fact he is a proven winner, something we need more of.
And this whole we need to prioritise the defence argument is a load of nonsense. Yes of course we do, but this isn't football manger. It looks like we are also on the verge of signing 3 fullbacks and will be signing a centre back. Why does signing Sanchez have anything to do with our defensive targets. We have a budget, and attached to that budget is a set of players we have/will be targeting. I don't think txiki sits looking at a list thinking fuck I really want to sign bonucci but I want Sanchez more.
Sane and Sterling are genuine wide men with pace. Sanchez is relentless and can finish, but he has lost a yard. Of course adding a player of his quality includes our options, but the transfer window does not work like that. You have a budget, even we do, and the aim is to end up with a balanced squad. At some point we have to stop accumulating endless forwards, and address the weaknesses in our team.Except he's clearly not.
The post you agreed with is one of the worst he's made, as if Sanchez pushing someone to the bench wouldn't make us stronger.
He thinks this is an 11 man game, and it's not. Care to remember the bench for the Monaco away game? We had no one on it good enough to change the game.
Remember Sané so exhausted in the cup semi final that he was refusing the ball? We desperately depth up front.
And then he goes on to pretend like signing Sanchez makes us less likely to buy Mendy and Walker which he knows is bulkshit but has to use because he's got no other legitimate points.
Similar to how he keeps calling him 29 when he's 28, and claims he can't beat a player anymore despite beating more than Sterling or Sané last season.
When someone's argument relies so much on false assumptions and needs embellishing then it's not a good one, and they aren't going to be right.
We don't have enough regular goal scorers in the team. He's the exact type of player we need, especially with his attitude, work rate and commitment.
The 5 of Sanchez, Aguero, Jesus, Sterling & Sane competing for 3 positions is just fine.
We were at our best when we had Aguero, Tevez, Mario & Dzeko and then Aguero, Dzeko, Negredo & Jovetic competing for 1 or 2 spots.
The darker years were Aguero, Iheanacho and Bony. That's when we dropped off and why the quality in depth is so important.
Players like Sterling were completely overplayed last year but Pep had no choice as the options on the bench were the likes of Navas and Nolito.
With two games a week, everyone will get a great amount of playing time. That will be so important for competing long term in the league and the champions league.
I do. You do tooI thought you had things to do!
