Alexis Sanchez

Because we know they literally can't afford to. They have to have a net spend of 0 just to afford paying Ozil and Sanchez £275k/week.

That's almost impossible, but with Ozil saying he's going to stay, Sanchez getting more is financially nonviable.

Does that include any other potential sales from within the squad though? The likes of Szczesny, Ospina, Debuchy, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Lucas Perez or even the likes of Wilshere, Ox or Giroud that might leave?

Yes. You need a net spend of 0 to afford the 275k contract offers.

So you're already at -52m, you're going to struggle to get that much from Ospina, Debuchy, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Perez & Wilshere put together.

Then you might get £40m for Ox and Giroud but you've got to replace half a dozen players for that.

What power over sales does Mr Wenger wield ?
Anything like City and others are in charge also one of their owners Mr K. may want the cash so may decide to sell.

Truth be told, I've no idea how much power Wenger has. I can't think of any public examples where the board have overruled him. If anything he, in a few more words, told them to forget about the prospect of a DoF at the club in front of the media and funnily enough we've heard nothing since.

I used the Mourinho argument because I would imagine if push came to shove, Wenger would rather sells to a mere "rival" rather than to someone he completely despises, coupled with the facts suggesting Sanchez would prefer us anyway.

Right if we had the choice of either and had to choose now....who would you go with. The younger Mbappe with the potential but unproven but at the start of his career, or the established older Sanchez who is proven, can slot in straight away and no time needed to adjust to the league ?

They are both quality with pro's and con's for either

Mbappe for me. Every day of the week.

Doesn't matter if United want him, just like it didn't matter that Bayern did.

We've locked down the player, he only wants to come to us so it doens't matter who else tries to come in, he's coming here or going nowhere.

Same thing as Mendy, where Liverpool & Juventus both tried to come in and were told not to waste their time.
Just like we locked down Alves & there's no chance he'd stab Pep in the back.

:)

I'm at a bit of a loss here (genuinly) with regards the FFP rules, perhaps you could explain them a bit to me.

My understanding was that clubs couldn't increase the wage bill by more than £7M each year. So if Lacazette is on that, then thats us at our limit. But, you could offset that by selling the afore mentioned fringe players, who's wages say add up to £350k a week, then you are saving £18M from the wage bill which you can redistribute how you wish?

Have i got that wrong?

I think you have that right.

Then if you offer huge payrises to Ozil & Sanchez...

I actually forgot about Kolosniac as well. You can see why it will be so tight. That's where you might be talking about shedding the likes of Giroud, Wilshere or Walcott. The real high earners that might not necessarily make the first XI. That's 300k right there.

Or, indeed we are just planning for the sale of Sanchez. Which now broken down like that would make financial sense.

Or, we are content to let him ride out the final year of his contract without him renewing & increasing the wage bill.

Feck knows, still none the wiser lol.

Speaking of which, how will Everton cope with this FFP rule? Offset by player sales i take it?

Everton are probably giving their new players contracts which scale year on year to keep under the increase cap.

Also buying young players or players from leagues which pay little, so their demands aren't so high.
