Anyone else relatively calm about all of this? If we sign him, absolutely fantastic. If we don't, nobody else will do. Arsenal will be rotting until at least January.

Arsenal can't afford to let that happen. They'll sell him before the deadline,
Not arsed about Arsenal rotting though. I just don't want to watch us spunking every chance we get, so I want it done.

If , for example, they turn down £60M and we walk way, what happens ? They have a totally disengaged player who will be worth nothing next summer. Surely we won't need to go to £70m. (Not bothered if we do though!)
Who knows, but since they do still have a contract with him, they can, if they wish to, reject everything and force him to play. If he refuses to play, then they just fine him and then maybe take him to court for breach of contract? TBH if they want £70m and we truly do want him badly, i dont understand why we dont just pay it. the contract is nothing to do with us, if we can wait for him then we obviously dont want him that badly.

Nope Tevez was awol for months you can only fine a player a certain amount

No that's not what he said.

He said "huge money and a replacement" traded hands. I've literally just listened back to it.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b092jtb7#play

He's completely clear, he says Arsenal won't sell to us without getting a player in return and we won't entertain giving them a player.

You can choose not to believe him, but that's what he says.

And he goes onto saying "the only scenario Arsenal are likely to encounter now is if in the unlikely event that Sanchez does go to city."

Needs to make his mind up which it is.

They can force him to play, what they can't do is force him to play well. He's useless to them now.

Yes relaxed about it. You, me and most independent observers will think that a slow departure of Sanchez will damage Arsenal, but their fans may hang on to the idea that once the window closes he'll knuckle down. We do not really know for sure how it affects the team, but human nature and reports, and form suggest it will be detrimental. I think Mahrez could be the lifeboat. Amazed none of the big clubs have snapped him up. I think that's what's going to happen. City buy Sanchez, and Arsenal use the proceeds to buy Mahrez.

I'm not saying he will refuse to play, I am suggesting a disengaged player may as well not be on the field and they may realise this.

If this is going to happen the new bid needs to go in soon for time to tie the rest of the deal up

Depends how much he's earning and how much that certain amount is. They could potentially make £7-8m from wage fines? it's 100% in arsenals interest to sell him at the earliest though, if they do end up selling him tomorrow then they leave hardly any time to get a replacement. IMO they should be selling him to us and negotiating (QUICKLY) to get a bit more than 50m and then using that immediately to put an offer in for Lemar. they're risking it all and at the moment with the way things are going, they'll be in deep shit whether he stays or goes.

Going to the wire then. I thought it might get done today. Tabloids will be going to press now and they are usually available from 10.30pm

It's deadly quiet

I suppose if our best offer is refused we could also have the option on Mr Mahrez or does the Pep approval need to be gained for that to happen ?
