Alf Grey - payback time

I remember that game like it was yesterday. Alf Grey cheated us that night cos we had dared to score after 3 mins. There was no other reason.

THE only refs name i remember from that period for one reason only. The only person in the ground to think it wasent a goal.

I was wondering whether this game existed when we played them in the semi in 81.

Due to the fact that we have no 'Istreeeeeeee' it surely was made up?

After all, reading the views on RAWK we've never experienced atmosphere and we're relatively new to this football malarkey aren't we?

Did we get invited to play them in the Semi while we were a non-entity?

Anyone shed any light on this?

I Remember this well,
Raining hard and Kevin Reeves goal disallowed for "ILLEGAL JUMPING" ffs what the hell does that mean? i still cant work it out now!
Ray Kennedy did score @ the Platt Lane and we lost the replay 2-1.
ILLEGAL JUMPING..........Similar to AGGRESSIVE WALKING.....Only City.

Peterborough away. Left the house with two shoes and returned with only one!! Pure mayhem when Tommy Booth scored. Everyone piling forward behind the goal, someone trod on my foot and one shoe became history. Very happy memories.

that was a wierd day out - I was squeezed in to the rear "seat" of my brother's mate's blue triumph spitfire - great trip over but bloody hell I was scared in that stand. soooooooo packed you really couldn't move - we were to the right of the goal and near the front - I seem to recall some girl getting passed out over the fence because she was passing out, or is this just my imagination? - that day could have been hillsborough..... at least we won!

I did the l'pool home leg which was as described - think I missed the away as I think I bought the programme later at the city shop to put the cover in my application for cup final tickets!

One and the same. Remember everyone in the crowd thinking... My god thats an aggressive walk, more aggressive than an aggressive thing from aggressive town. Bet the ref sends him off for that.

First thing I thought when we drew them, its been a long wait but lets set the record straight on this one.
thought exactly the same thing, will never forget that night.we outplayed the scousers when they were still at their best and we were pretty crap and were cheated like juve opponents a few years back.it kicked off badly after and grey made the normal antagonism ten times wors,.went to ipswich away the following year and some lads were seriously wanting to go and graffiti his house as he lived that way.nothing ever happened of course but how many refs can still be remembered with such bitterness 30 years on!!

International break and pissing it down so time for a bump . Sit back with a brew and enjoy ....

Alf Grey from Great Yarmouth

Ironically in the Match Programme for the 81 Semi Final it references the late penalty that he gave for Arsenal v City in the 78 LC Replay at Highbury

His diabolical penalty for Tottenham v City (81-82) was on the horizon
That penalty for Spurs was really shocking. Saw it a while ago on a rerun of the Big Match on ITV. The tackle wasn't a foul and it took place about 2 yards outside the area. He was biased, simple as.

Wasn't there also a match at Ipswich when we finished with eight players on the pitch. Wasn't it two sending's off and two carried off?
That game rings a distant bell but I don’t think Alf Grey would have been involved. It’s extremely unlikely that a ref from Norfolk would ever take charge of an Ipswich fixture.
