All New Police in England and Wales Must Have Degrees

What they forget is that people with a good degree won't join , not enough pay
Let me think errrrm I have a first class law degree shall I become a cop ( early lates nights weekends xmas etc) for 20k or a solicitor
No brainer I'm afraid
Far more people have a law degree than there are jobs for them. Unfortunately, that's what you get when everyone listens to the "what are you going to do with that?" brigade and studies something where the job is obvious rather than something they actually like. That's how we end up in a situation where big investment banks are hiring physics or computer science graduates over economics or finance graduates, because they're better at maths.

As for the news, the government doesn't seem to have a clue what they're doing. They're telling us that cops need degrees, but allowing schools to hire unqualified teachers and saying that nurses don't need a degree any more. It doesn't make any sense. Surely if cops need a degree level education, then just improve their current training and make 3 good A-levels the minimum entry requirements. It's not that hard. Unless they're studying criminology or something, I don't see how 3 years at university will make much difference.

I understand that however that's why I said good degree i.e. First

Can't see this happening. The police already have good graduate entry schemes with accelerated promotion for people who are bright (or a bit thick and in the masons).
Do they really have so many potential recruits with law degrees lined up that they can afford to be this choosey?
