All the new George Bests

United: unknown (to anyone) youth gets picked due to injury crisis, scores/makes goal in 1st game, England squad call up, media in frenzy about latest academy wunderkid (‘… academy kid in every matchday squad, since Noah created his own 5-a-side team, dontchaknow..’). See Rashford, januzaj and now mainoo.

City: unknown (to anyone but city fans) youth gets picked due to injury crisis, scores/makes goals in multiple cameo appearances, leading to more games, England call up, media not in frenzy about latest academy player to play for City, (‘… city academy just hoovers up players and stockpiles them, like Chelsea, dontchaknow..’). See Lewis, mcatee etc.

The only exception to the above has been Foden, where the media were clamouring for him to be sold/loaned out, to ensure City didn’t have a ‘boys own’ story to be repeated ad nauseum , as per United ‘boys own’ stories that appear for every United academy player, including the ones that get sold on

Rico Lewis has been picked for England in exactly the same kind of way a lot of United players, who shouldn’t have been, were. He should never have been picked for the Senior team yet, far too soon.

It’s ridiculous how players like Foden, Bellingham and a few others just bypass the U21’s and go straight into the senior team

It was because we hung on to Foden and no loan out that the RDAHMeedya went into a frenzy over Cole!

Will this lot never learn.
When was the last time they had a proper top young player come through.
Since that prick Beckham and his band of bellends I can't think of one.
Beckham wasnt a top young player, he was another product of the red media and good marketing and has parlayed a goal from the half way line and a free kick against greece into a media empire and fair play to him but the idea that he was a great player and some kind of free kick specialist is complete pish

Totally agree.
He played in 'boyband' generation so was marketable especially when he started seeing/married slapper spice!

He was a goodish player, but that was it.
Brilliant at deadball situations but average when it was moving!!!!!

I would even go so far to say he wasnt that brilliant at deadball situations, obviously the greece free kick helped him alot but the amount he took and missed, his average wasnt great at all

The most overrated footballer to ever lace up a pair of boots whilst still continuing to be the highest paid whore on the planet. What a ****!

Reminds me of Alexander-Arnold. World class at a couple of skills, otherwise pretty average, but plays in red, so lorded as one of the world's best players. I'm convinced that if Alexander-Arnold was playing in the 90s, he'd be a RM rather than a full back. As it is, right wingers these days need to be able to take people on and score goals, so he gets shifted back to full back.

Georgie boy wasn't that good apart from a few flashes when he was sober. Barry Conlon for me every day of the week.
To be fair, he did five seasons in a row scoring over 20 goals and over 30 once. That's quite a lot of end product for someone who only had a few flashes. Rashford became their highest paid player after doing that once.

Really pleasing to me is Charlie McNeill, who left City to join united, is now barely getting a game for Sheffield Wednesday.

Some great overhyping here:

The first paragraph of that article from 2020....

Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford have truly set the standard for the next generation of Manchester United starlets. The attacking duo have established themselves in the Red Devils first team,
