Its a shame, but with Tevez in the team (which he always will be when fit), Ireland's chances are going to be limited. I always said that Ireland had the capability to play in a more reserved, deepere central role (a la Cesc) but it seems that whenever he has played in this position, hes struggled to make a positive impact on the team. He clearly loves the free-role, but Tevez is far too good/important for him to play in such a way. I wish him all the best, but im very happy with the potential signing of Milner - his passing has been overlooked by a lot of people on here. A far more mobile and infinite upgrade on Barry, i'll stick my neck out and say he'll go very close to being our player of the season.

I'll stick my neck out and say he wont. No way can he thread balls through like Ireland. I'd rather us keep him and stump up the full price for Milner. Why fuck off a promising player because he had a poor season after his feinting when playing Fulham, surely we should be giving him another season?
He improved year after year then had a setback (could be manager changes) Fuck, we hardly have to get rid do we seeing as we're minted (can always play him in Carling cup/F.A cup and Europa games) Then base any decision over 2 years - he'll either sink or swim now.

He may not be as "cute" as Ireland in his passing, but Milner is an excellent crosser of the ball and his long range passing is also very good. His versatility is another bonus in a squad of 25, as well as his ability to chip in with 10 goals or so in all comps (hopefully more). Im not in any way saying that I want Ireland to be sold, but footballers want to be playing first team football, and for Ireland's sake, I think he'll be better off moving on. The rags see players come and go, Forlan and Pique being examples of those who have been successful after moving on - that's what City fans have to realise, were a totally different entity these days, and top players will come and go. I recognise the affinity with Stevie, and im sure he'll do very well at Villa (likewise with Dunney), but I think i speak for the majority of fans when I say that most of us still wouldnt take Dunney back, even after such a good season. Irelands a quality footballer, but I think its time for a fresh start. Good luck to him if he goes.

Re: Ireland On HisWay

Why is it a straight choice between Milner and Ireland? I wouldn't sell Ireland but I'd still take Milner.

The difference between Dunne and Ireland? Dunne (30) was/is at end of career, Ireland (23) is at beginning.

Re: Ireland On HisWay

I know it's been said before, but why not let Stevie go out on loan and see what happens? He is still young enough to develop. Also, being 'home grown', the price the club gets for him should have a premium as these are the players everyone willl be after soon.

Consistency (JM) is a greater attribute in a player than the occasional flash of genius (SI).

I think we should have both, as far as I'm concerned JM is a winger NOT a play-maker.

Good point. Ireland is at a stage in his career where he needs regular football which, it sadly seems, he won't be getting at City now with the players coming in. I wish him all the best because it won't be fair to keep him here for sentimental reasons and deny him games.

Jose Mourinho is a winger?Surely , we cant be thinking of exhanging a 23 year old Stephen Ireland for a 47 year old Jose Mourinho.
