All Time Top 1100 Albums (Aerosmith - Big Ones) P265

I've tried listening to Sigur Rós before and didn't find anything interesting. This album seems to meander like a small stream but sadly doesn't actually do much else, no waterfalls or anything exciting. Maybe a few eddies along the way that make you look and say, "Oh that bit was nice". Mainly sounds like they're tuning their instruments, or just putting them away.

4 / 10 - and that's generous because it's Friday.
An english translation of the lyrics for Agaetis Byrjun. Feels like it fits with what you have written re the meandering stream.

Bright Hopes Come True
As We Walk Downtown
Smiling And Laughing Happily
Friendship And Exhaustion Collide
We Celebrate The Day
A Two Year Wait
A Distant Dream Is Born
We Eat And Drink Til We’re Full
And Pay For Ourselves
With Everything We Have For The Day
We Sit Down Excited
Listen To Ourselves Play In Rhythm To The Music
No One Seems To Listen
This Is Completely Different
We Lived In Another World
Where We Were Never Invisible
A Few Days Later
We Speak Again
But The Sound Wasn’t Good
We Were All In Agreement
In Agreement About Most Things
We’ll Do Better Next Time
This Is A Pretty Good Beginning

I'm a fan of ambient music and had listened to some Sigur Ros in the past and not really bothered too much with them. It was nice to see the album pop up again and I gave it another listen. I like listening to albums with fresh ears and giving an album a second chance.

I think @OB1 mentioned that they sounded like Air on a bad day and I agree. I love Air, they are one of my favourite bands. Air make music that's understated, and has a 'childlike innocence' about it. It's synth-based music but sounds organic, they really have mastered that sound. The genius of Air though is that it's catchy, really catchy.

The problem Sigur Ros has is that their songs are one paced and boring. They have no start, middle or end and each song on the album just blends into the others. There's nothing particularly clever about it and good ambient albums certainly have that. I felt they were trying too hard to be ambient and it feels like they are stripping too much away from their music. I found the singers voice to be an annoying Thom Yorke (I love Radiohead).

If you can't tell, it's not for me. It starts, doesn't take me anywhere and ends. Overall, I found it pretty boring.

2/10.

Well, Ive been listening to this and I was going to pretty much say what you have said.:)
For me this isnt really music to sit and listen too as it doesnt seem to really take me anywhere, I find it hard to buy into.
I never liked those relaxation tapes years ago. I dont like listening to people doodling around on Synths. :)
I tried to get into Eno's stuff a few years ago but that was a fail. I dont know, I guess it would be nice background music over a nice dinner and conversation.?
Anyway Im giving it 3/10, not really my thing.

There’s a place for this type of music, usually while sitting in a room with subdued lighting having your feet tickled by a reflexologist or in one of those new age shops were they sell joss sticks, tarot cards and gaudy t-shirts with pictures of wolves and red indians on. It’s better in that respect to listening to the supposed sounds of trees crying or whales fleeing gunboats or whatever other plinky plonks stuff they play.

If I want something relaxing on it’s usually classical. I’ve listened to the likes of Air that have been mentioned by some and it’s never really stuck with me but then again maybe it’s not meant to. Same applies to this. It’s not offensive and in some places even quite nice but at others I wasn’t sure if it was still playing or I was listening to the gentle hum of next door but one drilling holes in the wall.

It’s not something I’d listen to again but it’s not terrible. I’d give it 5 out of 10

I've listened to these before, and they bore me. I'll give it a good, open-minded listen though..

Never quite got into Sigur Ros as much as many others seem to.

However, I do think some of their music is very good and I find Festival (the music from the end of 127 Hours) pretty uplifting.

Think that seems to be the general consensus - shame, a lot of this hit the spot for me.
I'll give it a good listen. When I'm in a better mood, though. i feel like I'm coming down with a cold/flu/COVID right now . I knew I shouldn't have gone to that crap bonfire party in Walkden the other night. Fuckng knew I'd catch something...WALKDEN!! At least it wasn't Little Hulton! That's where they sent all the lepers back in the 50s. The outcasts of Salford.
