All Time Top 1100 Albums (Aerosmith - Big Ones) P265

Not my thing. Never liked that over-the-top kind of gospel singing. I've got half way through this album and although it sounds decent, i just can't be arsed with the second half. I was thinking of having a reefer to listen to Aretha...but changed my mind.
A neutral 5/10

Ah, Aretha now… makes me think of that song by Steely Dan, “Hey Nineteen”.
An amazing song from their worst record. And even as their worst record it’s STILL pretty great. What a band.

Picking my favorite Steely Dan record might be the hardest choice I’d have across the musical catalog of ANY band. What’s more, my wife loves them too, and we do not often share musical tastes (Deadhead-who-hates-punk that she is).

Dead as in Grateful Dead? Aaaaaaarrrggghh! Now if there's one band from that period I have no time for, it's them. People rave about Jerry Garcia's doings on guitar. They should try listening to Frank Zappa on Hot Rats. Just not the same ball park.
If we get into the SD discussion I'll go on and on and on. From Can't Buy A Thrill through to Two Against Nature, pearls on every album. I'm very, very fond of Aja, because I have listened to much more jazz than rock for two or three decades, and Aja is perhaps their most overtly jazz influenced (with the titan, Wayne Shorter, on tenor sax…)

“My Old School” has terrific, acerbic lyrics. And a chorus that you can't help but sing along to. (The colored girls — as Lou Reed would say — make a vital contribution to that chorus). And there are many others…
