All Time Top 1100 Albums (Aerosmith - Big Ones) P265

Oh dear, apologies to her fans, I’m in the minority probably..
My eldest stepson said to me after listening to some of the music I like said “Ant, I think your ears are broken “. :)
Tell me about it - you should see the looks of despair whenever I pick up my guitar in ear shot of my daughter's.

Absolutely brutal...........

No Secrets is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter Carly Simon, released on November 28, 1972, by Elektra Records.

The album was Simon's major commercial breakthrough; it spent five weeks at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart and quickly went Gold, as did its lead single, "You're So Vain", which remained at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three weeks, and the Adult Contemporary chart for two weeks. Twenty-five years after its initial release, No Secrets was officially certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on December 12, 1997.

1. The Right Thing To Do

5. We Have No Secrets
6. Embrace Me, You Child
7. Waited So Long
8. It Was So Easy
9. Night Owl
10. When You Close Your Eyes

Here we go! Review No 9 - You're so vain you probably think this review is a bout you, don't you !? - The lovely Carly Simon kicks off our Album for the week - A mix of personal and poignant songs and her voice is very nice, for a album 50 years old this is still sounding very fresh - whilst many songs stand the test of time it is hard to pinpoint which ones are exactly the classic's aside from 'You're So Vain' , 'We Have No Secrets' is nice enough and showcases her voice and subtle lyricism also 'Night Owl' is quite a good upbeat cover - but i'm struggling to find anything else memorable on here.
'You're so Vain' is just the stand out - it is a wonderfully produced classic pop song with the help of Mick Jagger on back up vocals.
A talented artist and a wonderful voice (and a nice pair of nipples) but 'No Secrets' was just too bland for me.

This placed 997 out of the Top 1000

That's an awful album, absolutely nothing going for it except that one song. Her voice sounds like someone meandering a tune while staring out the window as she's doing the dishes. Strange note choices when she's singing and she's actually out of tune in places (eg Waited So Long, 42secs).

I bet Warren Beatty was really hoping that song wasn't about him.

Top thread this one. I look forward to which album will be next and it's a good way of getting to know some classic music you might have missed. Good or bad...I'll give it a listen.
I'm in no rush for this one though haha...I'll take my time.

I havent voted for any of the albums yet because they would all get a zero or one, and that would be unfair, as there are some talented artists so far, but I just dont like them.

Well . . . this is no greatest hits record, which I might have time for. The problem with “You’re So Vain” is that it doesn’t fit with the rest of the stuff here tonally, thematically nor musically — and that music is a mess: strings one place, tinkly piano bullshit another place, slide guitar here, some counter-culture drum filled with rocks keeping time there. Unfortunately YSV also doesn’t sound as good musically or meaning-wise as I remembered. It’s not the only interesting song here — I enjoyed “The Right Thing To Do”, with a nice “Carly lift” in the chorus which she used in all her best stuff. And “When You Close Your Eyes” has some appeal. When she’s singing about some guy who loves or left her, there’s a different lilt in her voice which conveys something. But a good number of these lyrics sound like random passages read from her children’s books, or were apparently written in the back of a cab on the way to the studio. And the tunes — ugh. I mean UGGGGHHHH. “Waited So Long”, musically, is well-suited to the world’s worst Fleetwood Mac cover band. The awful “Night Owl” is the kind of song that drives people out of bars. And the rest are nearly as cringeworthy. The 70s live on through this collection, I guess, but it’s also an excellent reminder of what was shit about that decade. 2/10.
