Allsvenskan 2024 Swedish League

Hi @kingn6. I should take more interest in Swedish football as my Daughter lives over in Stockholm and I visit quite regularly, but to my shame I don't know the first thing about Swedish football other than Malmo and Gottenburg play in their league.

Who is the team to follow? Any relationships with City and finally which teams play id Stockholm... might help me start to get interest and pick up a team? Thanks.

Some crazy resulta in todays matches

AIK conceded six, their only goal was scored by City academy product Celina.

Mjällby thumped Hammarby 3-0

After a couple bad results Halmstad found form and beat Häcken 3-0.

@malg your boys did a smash and grab job in Västerås. Thank your keeper arasheed for that. 2nd away win on the bounce.

Nice. The lads are on a roll!

Another batch of matches played today.

Djugården thumped Brommapojkarna in the Stockholm derby 0-5
Malmö beat GAIS to continue their strong start
Gothenburg and Norrköping picked up valuable draws on the road against Sirius and Kalmar.

Got to ask, as Elfsborg manager Jimmy Thelin is going to become Aberdeen manager next season, and I have little knowledge of Swedish league football, what does everyone think of him? Do you think he can turn my Dons around?
Thelin is highly regarded in Sweden. He was one of top candidates for the national job along with Graham Potter and Jon Dahl Tomasson. I would say he is 2nd best manager in the league after Malmös’s coach.

He took Jönköping Södra from the 2nd tier to a stable mid tsble team in Allsvenskan. Eventually he was not supported enough there and they got relegated. Still his stock was high so Elfsborg approached him. They were struggling at the time at the wrong end of the table. He turned them into a regular contender for the league and european spots. They were within a whisker pf winning the league last season.

If you were to compare his achievements it would liike making Wigan a stable PL team and then taking over Everton and making them into top 3-5 club. A bit like Martinez did really and their philosophy is similar

He is modern coach who gets a lot of his ideas from the evangelist of tactical periodisation Vitor Frade. Google him and you will see more.

I think he can do well for the Dons but it does require patience to implement his style. I hope does well and challenges the Glasgow clubs.

Thanks for the info. He will have a big job on his hands at Pittodrie, but there is a couple of really good players in the Dons squad already plus some very good young talented players starting to force their way to the first team.

There are four clubs in Stockholm. I have bias and I am not a big fan of 3 of them. Prefer the southern teams but I will be objective :-). I am sure you will have blast especially if you watch a Stockholm derby.

AIK- Allmäna Idrottsklubben (public sportsclub).
They are one of the most successfuö clubs in Sweden and usually battle out in top half of table.
They have big following both home and away.
Their have pretty rough ultras as sell.
Their fans come from broad group of people popular with middle class and working class and also with ethnic minorities
They play their matches at the National stadium.
They play in black and white
They have two former City youth producs on their books Bersant Celina and John Guidetti

Djurgården

The posher team from the city
Plays in dark blue and sky blue
Has also been successful in recent history
They and Hammarby share the tele2 arena
Fans tend to be middle and upper class
Their recent Citt connection is Andreas Isaksson who retired a few seasons back
Also quite hard ultras

Hammarby
They have biggest following in Sweden and best attendance
Play in green and white
Fairly successful but still a bit of a perenial underachiever. Bit like west ham (city or newcastle of old)
Their fans tend to come from south or south central Stockholm
Their fans are known for enjoying a beer or two
It is working mans club with more social democratic leaning
Favourite clip with Hammarby sort symbolises them with club icon Kennedy

No real connections with City

Brommapojkarna

They are the little brother here.
They play in tiny stadium. Lovely and relaxing place to watch the matches.
They play in red and black
They are coached by Aston Villa Legend Olof Mellberg
They tend to overachieve on a tiny budget.
They are real talent hot bed and gernally supply the other clubs with talents both nationally and internationally.
We signed John Guidetti from them

Can someone do a Finnish football thread? My cousin lives in Helsinki
I used to follow it a bit a fe years ago. My mate was sporting director for Ifk Mariehamn.

There is one big club in the league and that is HJK.it is really hard for the other teams to compete with them. They are from Helsinki

Well done, Göteborg. Something to build on.
