Allsvenskan 25/26

City connections

John Guidetti AIK- He came home to Stockholm after soending several years out in Europe. Started out in City and then had spells in holland, italy, spain and scotland. He has started the season well after fitness issues last season.

Bersant Celina- Also a player that played in City’s youth teams then had spells in the Championship and Europe. Has also been on form this season and Spanish clubs are circling him.

Colin Rösler- Uwe’s son came vis Netherlands and Norway to Mjällby. He was one of the league’s best defenders and got a move after season and a half to the big boys Malmö. He has also been solid in Malmö’s defence.

Quiz can you name two former Malmö managers who have played for City? @Vienna_70 @Platt Lane 59 @ChicagoBlue anyone else?

The most familiar player otherwise with a PL connection is Pontus Jansson the former Leeds and Brentford player.

Djurgården tifo yesterday vs Chelsea. Match result was expected with the gulf in quality but Chelsea players and fans were really, impressed with atmosphere in the stadium.

Another round of games at the weekend. Key points from the weekend

1.This year edition of Värmamo could be one of the worst teams in allsvenskan ever. After 7 games they have 0 points. At the weekend they managed to conceed 3 goals whilst playing 11 against 10 against another side destined for the bottom of the table

2. Mjällby are for real. They have built a quality team on a shoestring budget and now they top table

3. A fiery Stockholm derby between Djurgården and AIK. Resulted in ambulance ride, multiple injuries, a penalty, handcuffs after the final whistle and the teams shared the points.

It was game 8 of the season at weekend and one game today.

Two games I want to to highlight are top of table clash AIK v Mjällby. It was surprising to see both these teams undefeated so far into the season.AIK did what they have done in a lot of matches this season, play badly but walk away with all the 3 points.

The other big story from the weekend Värnamo finally got their first point of the season grabbing a draw away to GAIS.

Malmö who have struggled got a win away to Degerfors. Perhaps they can start climbing the table now? Former Bolton, Chelsea and Barclona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen’s son Daniel made his first start for Malmö. He comes from a real football family his grandpa Arno played several seasons in allsvenskan and for Anderlecht. His uncles also played in allsvenskan and two of his brothers play professionally in Norway and Belgium.

Some exciting games in allsvenskan during round 9

Table toppers AIK dropped two points after conceding late away in a goal fest away to Häclen.

Mjällby bounced back as they won a difficult away game to Djurgården. Great goal by Stroud and he looks ready for bigger things.

Malmö’s struggles continue as they could only draw with bottom dwellers Värnamo.

Game round 10 brought a new team to the top of the table.

Hammarby and AIK played out a goalless draw in the Stockhol derby.

Everyone’s favorite underdog Mjällby took advantage as they won a scrappy game against Brommapojkarna to climb to the top of the table.

The team everybody forgets when they are assessing potential winners Elfsborg, are slowly coming up the tail of the noisy Stockholm clubs. They handed out a thumping to Djurgården.

Malmö got an importsnt win against Halmstad to remain in the chasing pack.

We might have a Leicester type of season in allsvenskan just 10x that achievement. Mjällby are continuing to impresss and they have already played almost all of their difficult fixtures already. If they were to win the lesgue it would be the equivalent of of team from Cheadle winning the whole thing.

They are everyone’s favourite underdog back in 2018 they were facing extinction and were struggling in the 3rd tier. Their manager was struggling with cancer last season. They have dealt with the Stockholm clubs stealing their best players, managers ans scouts every seasons. Well guess what there is something in the water in Mjällby that they can’t steal

In the last few weeks facing the Stockholm clubs they have been very unlucky in a defeat to AIk away, beaten Hammarby away, beaten Djurgården and Brommapojkarna away. On top of that they had their first player called up for the national team ever.

Yesterday they faced Hammarby and they even managed to rest some of their stars and still beat them in what is considered the 2nd toughest away match of the season. They als started a 16 year old in central midfield Romeo Leandersson and he impressed.

Here are the highlights

The other game was also a big fixture. AIK visited Malmö. The home team really needed a win jere to kickstart their season. However they were unable to breach a staunch AIK defence. What is even worse they lost their leader and captain Pontus Jansson. Will they have City like season?
