Seems they both got themselves sent off last night so they will be able to come back into the Real side with a clean slate by the knockout stages of the CL. Got to be something wrong with the system if they can get away with this.

Haven't read the thread yet but Beckham did the same for England a few years back! Bet the gutter press don't mention that.

Just read the thread, just goes to prove , read before you post!!

Sorry but can you point out how it is cheating?

You think they don't?????

.. so then if Ramos had played Auxierre and received a yellow he'd then be suspended from the knock-out stage due to an accumulated total of two yellow cards? This is what confuses me about the alleged tactic of getting the yellow out of the way by getting a second booking for time-wasting

He will now be suspended for the next match and back to zero cards.

I am not sure which but confuses you.

It's not the first time it's been done, although most of the time its not so blatant. Dont see a problem with it. Imagine that you'd previously picked up a yellow for a 'nothing' challenge and your next yellow would mean you'd miss a knockout game....why wouldn't you take advantage of the law ? Ref's are too quick to get their cards out these days anyway.

They could have tried to hide it by making a rash challenge on a player, but why risk injuring someone when you can get a yellow card by time wasting.
The slate should be wiped clean after the group stage anyway.

Why should the slate be wiped clean? If they've been booked it's nobody else's fault except the player himself. The referee makes the decision on the pitch and that's what's wrong, too many people in studios picking referees performances to pieces. They call it as they see it, you and I don't always agree with it but it's not going to change anytime soon. So if they've accumulated a few bookings and risk the chance to miss a game in the knockout stages, tough shit, they shouldn't have got booked in the first place.

Bollocks, what you say is all well and good IF YOU COULD APPEAL YELLOW CARDS, which you cannot. SO like Zabba picked up a yellow for a non-foul Vs Fulham and is now suspended for a game. The whole world could see it was not a foul, but according to your rules, tough shit. That is wank. It is makes me say, Jose played to the rules in book and tough shit on UEFA as they can't do anything about it. If they didn't want this situation to arise then they shouldn't have a stupid totting up rule of yellow cards that carry accross.

Just because it's possible to bend a rule by acting like an idiot, doesn't make it a bad rule.

Ramos and Alonso look like fools, and I suspect they'll be embarrassed in the cold light of day.

What's more, how many yellow cards are 'borderline' - at the time they thought they'd fooled the referee, but they now have to play another half dozen games in this competition where refs will be watching their every move. I suspect a couple of easy yellow's might appear down the line.

Re: Jose's Way To Glory

Unfortunately this happens when you have a dull, dull referee. He walks over to the manager, explain you know what is happening, and send him off for ungentlemanly conduct and inform him he will be cited in the match report. Repeat warning to player. Don't send them off, also explain to Ajax manager the problem and explain they have nothing to worry about. Once the Real players realise you aren't going to send them off, they will carry on, as they have no reason to time waste.

But it is a bad rule and I tend to want the best players to play in the latter stages as I want to watch the best, which is the whole point after all.

I still don't see the crime.

Technically it is not cheating as they have not broken any rules....

It is not in the spirit of the game or fair play......

It just goes to show Mourinho's attention to detail......
Correct. No rules broken, just not in keeping with the 'spirit of the game'. Mind you, the way the fame is these days, it probably is!

ok so I guess I'm stupid... what do mean by "carry across"? League and Cup play, or stage to stage?

ssn showed the incidents this morning. both blatantly time wasted, alonso running backwards & forwards & generally dicking around when taking a free kick & ramos pulling his socks up, standing around & showing no sign of being about to take a goal kick.

beckham did likewise a few years ago, deliberately getting a yellow against wales for needlessly flattening robbie savage so he'd be suspended for england's unimportant next game & keeping him clear for the more important following game.

Pretty sure it was Thatcher not Savage was it not?

yes you're right. my bad.

-- Wed Nov 24, 2010 12:19 pm --

real madrid had already won their group so being banned for the last group game doesn't make any difference & ramos & alonso will both have a clean slate after their one game suspensions. if they had played in the last group game and been booked they would have missed the 1st leg of the next knockout round which is far more important.

Re: Jose's Way To Glory
