Bollocks, what you say is all well and good IF YOU COULD APPEAL YELLOW CARDS, which you cannot. SO like Zabba picked up a yellow for a non-foul Vs Fulham and is now suspended for a game. The whole world could see it was not a foul, but according to your rules, tough shit. That is wank. It is makes me say, Jose played to the rules in book and tough shit on UEFA as they can't do anything about it. If they didn't want this situation to arise then they shouldn't have a stupid totting up rule of yellow cards that carry accross.

Let me get this right then.......just a for instance....City are playing Real Madrid in the Champions League knockout stage 1 and Ramos and Alonso both score and City lose the game 2-1 so exiting the competition to two goals by players who really shouldn't have been playing. How's your take on the rules then ?

How do you work out they should not be playing? In this scenario they have served their ban.

No rules have been broken and City would be able to use the same loophole should they need.

They should have been playing unless they were booked against Auxeere. They've done nothing wrong at all, the game was won and it didn't give any disadvantage to Ajax. If City are in the competition next season and are top of the group by 1 point going into the 2nd last game. Tevez and De Jong are on a yellow and are one away from suspension, game is 4-0 city, would you rather them get sent off and miss a nothing game or play the last game, get booked and miss the knockout against United?

The only time I have had any use for Madrid is when they beat United at Old Trafford a decade ago. I think Fernando Redondo did something magical and Raul finished it off. Could be wrong.

Apart from that I dislike them intensely as they are a Spanish version of United. Sadly with Mourinho at the helm I expect them to sweep all before them including Barca. I hope I'm wrong.

I've just watched these incidents on SSN and it just confirms to me that there is pretty much nothing about Mourinho that I like! He's a right c'unt!

I like it if City did this in Europa i'd be happy and half of you guys would be delighted.

Under these cirmcumstances, dunno! I would expect a hefty fine and possibly UEFA having the red cards rescinded and they would still be on one yellow card, and if they did that I'd say it was fair because it's just gamesmanship to the extreme and I hate this kind of shit!

ssn are reporting uefa are 'looking into' the incident but as far as i can see there's nothing more they can do about it. let's hope city similarly find a way to work the forthcoming financial fair play rules to our advantage ;)

Mourinho has been savvy enough to identify a loophole and exploit it.
"Getting the edge" sorts out the winners from the also rans and we will need to develop a similar attitude if we want to consistently win big trophies.
It would be nice to win fairly with a Corinthian spirit but there's too much at stake for that these days.

-- Wed Nov 24, 2010 6:57 pm --

Saying it's one thing and proving it's another. UEFA can't make a rule and then on the suspicion that it's being bent punish teams who are prepared to abide by it.
The publicity that last nights' game has generated will no doubt spark a review at the end of this season and a decision will be made as to whether to persist or amend the rule but to amend it will probably create another opportunity for exploitation.
The chance to exploit the current rule as it stands is quite rare and may turn out to be the lesser evil.
