Am I the greatest Stone Roses fan on the forum?

I was just thinking exactly the same to be truthful, Oasis were far better live than the Roses from my experience.
That first Roses album is a better album than anything Oasis ever did, but I think there are far more good Oasis tunes than there are Roses ones.
Oasis could easily do two separate headline sets, where as realistically the Roses only have one set.
Both great bands and at this moment in time, the Roses are probably seen as the cooler of the two. The clamour for Oasis to reform is going to get louder over the next few years and their kudos will increase again.

the jam are the best band ever bar none lee. always loved them and the style council was a bit to girly for me back then. but funny thing is the style council are ok now and can listen to most of the stuff weller did with the council
stone roses was a happening MADchester ? and manchester needed the roses after the death of ian curtis Joy Division and the end of the smiths. music was going deep into more shitty yank stuff and british music was on its knees until madchester happened ? funny thing lee is it was about the same time i moved from the hillock to ancoats and it was happening on my doorstep. and most of the music was coming from the old mills turned into rehearsals rooms and i worked at sankeys and many of the big noises had rooms there and was always bumping into everybody

In places they were like a funky Led Zep - and I'm not keen on Zep. Love the first album, but love the second more!

Are all better than anything the Stone Roses put out.
There’s an argument to say both debut albums are close, in terms of quality but when What’s the Story Morning Glory came out, Oasis blew them away.
Contrast it to the Second Coming and it’s arguing for the Word Cup over national league football.
The Second Coming is a mediocre album barring a couple of absolute stormers in Tears and Love Spreads. It's a 7/10 record of itself but woefully underwhelming in comparison to the first album.
The first album is the greatest album ever. Every song is an absolute blinder and it captures 'everything coming together' from that glorious era in Manchester's history.
The first album demolishes anything Oasis have ever written. Imo there isn't a single Oasis song that would replace any song on the album. Not one.

That’s the most deluded thing I’ve ever heard pal but music is all about opinions so fair play.
I really like the Stone Roses for the record and the debut album is likely in my top 10 favourite.

Fair play Trot mate.
They tried to "americanise" their sound on the second album as Geffen wanted them to break America.
Imo it just didn't suit them and there was no need to change what was already perfect.

Second coming was all over the place musically but there are some absolute belters on there. Everything apart from straight to the man are top tunes, I love breaking into heaven, your star will shine is beautiful, tears is a tear jerker and ten storey is the only love song written without trying to write a love song.So, am I the only one who thinks (most of) the 'Second Coming' is better than the first album? I queued up outside HMV on the Sunday night to buy it just after midnight and was blown away with the opening, then when the music kicked in it blew me away even more, loved tightrope and how do you sleep straight from the off, still sound fresh today.
Got to see them at Sheffield late December 95, you could tell they was going through the motions, was sad to see plus it was minus Reni.
But yeah second coming at half as bad as some make out.

i think we all went in cedric car and we was shocking that day ?? god 31 years wow times has really gone fast ? had some great times on the hillock and made great friends and still talk to mike and helen on facebook now and again as you on here. stay safe lee and your family. its a bad time at the moment but we will get through it soon and hope maybe we can get together at the game for a drink. stay safe matey

I think the second album is definitely underrated. It does get compared to Zeppelin and you can definitely hear Page’s influence on Squire (who admits himself that he listened to a lot of Zep around the time).I can hear this on tracks like Driving South and Tears. I’m a big Zeppelin fan and whether he sounds like Page or not I think Squire’s guitar on the 2nd album shows he’s a very talented musician. I think the second album exposed Ian Brown - some of the songs needed a better singer.
Always a disappointment that they didn’t make a third album given the time they’ve been back together for gigs in recent years.

10 storey love song would still stand the test of time now, 2nd coming though very aptly named was a huge disapointment for me, they always remain special to me mind

It wasn’t even close, when you compare Oasis’s second album is a frightening difference in quality.
It’s too commercial. Noel ripped off numerous bands and the record was designed to make money. Music is an art form. Look at the state of Be Here Now (unlistenable), SOTSOG or Heathen Chemistry. You never hear people singing Gas Panic.
