Let me put my cards on the table. I'm a season ticket holder, have been for years. I'm up at about 4400 points so not exactly an elite fan. I've been away, both in Europe and in div 3, and I've been fortunate enough to have always had the dosh to go.
I was there on Wednesday, just as I have been to most of the daft cup games we have played at this part of the season in years gone by (shows 3007 medal).
From my perspective, I was disappointed that there were not more there on Wednesday. But, I always am. I'd love everyone to think like me and have the means like me. Sure, I've missed home games, I do every year for one reason or another and I give my season ticket to a blue who loves to go without asking for any finacial return.
Again, at the moment, I accept I am lucky. Just like billy big bollocks who earns 3 big ones a week in his big house, very Stretford.
That said, there absolutely has to be a contingent of 'Not arsed', not just one off's on holiday, which is the hot topic. There is clearly a fairweather element in our support that have the means, but are just not interested in Fulham in the Carling cup. We will get 40K plus for West Ham and I am sure some of those additional 15K fans could have made the effort for Wednesday.
I'm not really sure what this Kiam has said. But I think this all boils down to a three things: Mindset, means and motivation. If there is a game on, do you want to go? For me, yes, regardless of the opposition. Do I have the means? Yes, I agree, I'm lucky. Do I want to go? Yes, always. However, this is a simple train of thought for me and I accept people are made different. Kiam may be deemed 'extreme', but I see why he is frustrated.
For the record, as a club, the game on Wednesday was far, far, far bigger than the Derby. The Club needs a trophy, a monkey off the back. Again, as a Club, we need to change our focus. Playing Stretford should be a one off, winning something, anything, the 1000% aim.
