Ambition and Balls

The way our middle men and management appear to be so close to Barcelona I wouldn't be too sure, and Foden would do what suits Foden IMO.
That's not the point though. Anyone can land anywhere. But as a rule, you cant pull the star of other big clibs id they want to keep them.

And it is fair to apply same rules to us.

My Liverpool-esque window of 400 mil

Forwards: I want a forward that is not U23 I want a reliable one that produces output like Alvarez and Mahrez. They never had to try too hard they basically magnets in the final 3rd. Not a Grealish. Not a Doku. Skills I need. Ball striking and good first touch.

Midfielders: I think it’s clear we don’t have enough duel winners. I want someone with high stamina that can cover ground - who would actually elongate Rodri’s career by doing some of the dirty work. Skills I need. Duel winner, high pressing, versatile.

Defenders: I know we’ve bought a bunch of centre backs but I want to have a water tight backline. There is no holes. I want a partnership we can rely on Gvardiol x Khusonov is the dream but if could get a veteran centre back I would NOT mind. I want 2 RBs that offer different things. One that’s defensively solid and one that is a relentless threat in the final 3rd.

Forwards: Lookman Olise
Midfielders: Camavinga Baleba
Defenders Dumfries Kounde

If we are talking realistic but ambitious signings for next summer

Out
Ortega
Nunes
Kovacic
Stones
Ake
Silva
Nico.G - depends if he gets minutes
Savio - if he wants tp force a move

issue is that we would loose 2 HG players

RB - Vanderson, imho closest thing we could get as like to like replacement to Walker
CBs - Bah/Reis and Guehi
CMs - Baleba and Javi Guerra - does Baleba gets nod for HG? He joined Brighton when was 19 and this is his 3rd season in England
RW - go balls deep to get Olise/Rodrygo

Lookman, No. Olise, we probably can't get. Already at a top vlub.

Carmavinga, yes. Beleba, maybe. I think he is Brighton hype.

Dumfries, absolutely not. Too old. Kounde, already at top club.

So 1 of 6. Keep working Viana :)

Next summer needs to be one of ambition and balls replacing many players that are either at WC or close to it. Who could be those players and let's face it they are going to be v expensive but we need to aim for 3-4 best in class wherever they are, every player has a price nomatter what the selling club initially say. I would say this may be a £500M spend window, maybe more

3 key areas/ players/ projected costs

Right Back: Livramento: £80M
Centre Midfield: Pedri: £250M (who gives a shit if this is the price, worth it)
Centre Midfield: Wharton: £80 (already really good will be superb)
LW/ Attacker: Musiala: £150M, (release clause maybe)

Pedri is the very hard one but every player has a price, getting him to move to Manc maybe tricky
Before we do anything we need clarity on these charges now as it needs dealing with one way or another . Can’t keep going into season with it hanging over our heads as it will be affecting recruitment .

Just thinking about it and if we lose the following next season like we think we will:

Stones, Ake, Bernardo, Ortega, Phillips and Akanji and Grealish on permanents.

Then we will only have 5 of the treble squad left remaining:

Foden
Haaland
Dias
Rodri
Rico Lewis

We’ve already lost 12 of that squad.

Just think that’s pretty mad when it feels like yesterday.

I don’t think we need to replace that experience though, the new players are hungry, even Marmoush and Reinjders haven’t really won anything.

Three things are coming to a collision point in the next 12-18 months and they will create an inflection point for the club:

1) Conclusion of the 115
2) APT deals getting approved and injection of $2Bn into the club over the next 8-10 years
3) The end of the Guardiola Era

Those 3 things will create a clean sheet for the new manager and, given the current net spend creating significant headroom under the rolling 3 yr FFP metric, a massive war chest to rebuild the team for the next generation.

In addition, City will have half a squad of homegrown talent ready to return from loans and stake their claim.

Given Pep’s contract expiration coincides with the end of Vinny’s contract, I’m hopeful he is being lined up for an emotional return to his adopted home. If so, it would be an opportune time to release the post-115 financial shackles and give him the support to create the 2027-2035 City team capable of returning to the heights of the Pep era.

also count in World cup, very big fatigue and injuries are bound to happen

Vincent is far too intelligent to take any job at City

I just think that setting this up and creating an expectation in your mind that this is even possible means you'll never be happy. The club has never operated like this even in the wildest days of transfer activity.
I don’t even want us to operate like this - glad the club isn’t fan led….Pep would be sacked, we’d have a ton of 100m plus players - acting like spoilt brats with half of them no playing due to form and entitlement…..and the manager merry go round days we used to have, would be back.

It doesn’t need to be that extreme either though. A few more higher quality signings occasionally and not backing out of bidding wars every time would probably improve us faster than trying just project youngsters or average/shite like Nunes, Phillips, Savinho

Can you expand that a little bit ?

Sounds like you’re also suggesting he ducks a challenge which is a different man to the one I remember as our captain.
I can’t imagine why he would ever potentially want to sour his relationship with the club or fans by coming back.

Just setting him up to fail by having him follow Pep. What happens if we are mid table by Christmas in his first year and the club have to fire the man who’s got a statue outside the stadium. It’s just unnecessary pressure and inviting things to go tits up.

as mentioned above there could a large exodus this summer and I think there are quite a few English players that are now developing into v good players to fill positions where we will have squad gaps: Livramento (obvious), Wharton, Guehi and Gibbs White. All very handy players

On top of all of that we've seen very little evidence that he's actually good enough? Winning the championship with Burnley was impressive, and good practice for Bayern because it showed he could manage a squad that costs 5x more than the league average and dominate with it.

We haven't seen anything from him at Bayern that would make you think he's gonna win the PL with the competition we're up against, or the CL. Last year Bayern lost every game against a top club in the CL.

We should just let him do his thing, grow as a manager, get better and if he's good enough with the nature of football he'll be our manager eventually.

We already have shown balls and ambition in signing Donnarumma

Not only a WC keeper but changes the way we play

Hmm.

You do have a point.. Donnarumma might be our first galactico signing since KDB, maybe even Aguero.

It is a statement!

People dismissed Erling signing for us as he's a City fan. We were basically manufacturing our stars or picked up good players from other teams (Walker/ Mahrez/ Ake/ Stones/ Rodri/ Dias) and made them better.

We seriously need the 115 to go away as that will reduce doubt of us being in trouble. I think the 115 probably played a part in Jude/ Rice/ Wirtz saying no.

Donnarumma is a great signing and does show real ambition because we have one of if not the best GK in the world. Often fans cannot get too excited about GKs but as we can see at United and remembering Bravo when the GK positon goes wrong it is a total disaster

I still think that next steps we need again to replace Walker and KDB. When we signed these players the football world was amazed at the fees but what great value they turned out to be. Whoever we get to be at the level required will amost certainly be very expensive (and probably should be)
