Shaking hands is a formal thing, I'd be more likely to slap one of my mates then shake their hand. Shaking hands is for the first time you meet someone or in a professional scenario.Nothing weird about that. It's a standard greeting. I wouldn't hug them though. One of my mates would have away with my wallet for starters. He's a changed man, honest. I have 4 very close mates, the Wives are mates as well, we do holidays together, drink socially etc etc and I've never ever thought about hugging them. One did try and high five me once. That's another American thing. Twat.
