An apology to Mancini

We told all you Hughes-mongerers. We told you, told you, told you.

I think a lot of the people who were so critical of Mancini last season just wanted to see more of what we've seen since this season started. Not just in terms of results, but in terms of the manner in which we approached games. People will say that we weren't good enough last year to go to place like WHL and attack from the off, but we'll have to respectfully agree to disagree as I felt we were.

It's very difficult to be critical of a manager when his team is playing the way City currently are, with such belief and verve. Mancini must be given as much credit as the players because you can see that the belief comes in part from how much they're enjoying playing his 'way' this season.

What the future holds none of us knows. I know from a personal point of view, losing matches, drawing matches, will feel much more palatable if we continue to play the way we have.

Forza Mancini? I guess so....:- )

He's had a bottomless pit of money, granted, but he has bought so well. Dzeko £27 mill, Andy Carroll £35 mill says it all. And Silva was a steal, when you consider Chavski's apparent willingness to pay £40 mill for Modric tells you even more.

Forza Bobby Manc, you little beauty. Thank God Mourinho went to RM.

I'm curious to see if all this love will continue when we start to lose points because of the CL , the 3 games a week and the rotation.

I told my brother a few weeks after Mancini arrived, that'd he'd mold us into a kind of Chelsea-Arsenal hybrid. We've have the physical and mental determination and toughness of the Mourinho built Chelsea, combined with the fluidity and technical prowess of Arsenal, right now we look exactly like that.

No team will boss us physically, and very few teams can match us in terms of skill.

That said, it's only 3 games in and it's easy to get carried away.

I have said this as well on here. I always thought he was trying to give us the power and strength of Chelsea mixed with the technical ability of Arsenal. At the moment it looks like he is throwing in the movement of Barca as well.

As for apologies they shouldn't be necessary as we all move on together now. I was a massive supporter of Hughes and think he did a good Job - he did take us to the next level, but within an hour of Mr Mancini's appointment I just knew we had an "upgrade". Any members on here who didn't share this view, well so what ?. We all see a different game and we are all entitled to an opinion.

Last season I couldnt see what the fuss was. Mancini didnt strike me as being over cautious, he impressed me as being a manager who knew what he wanted and was moulding a team and a system and like any good manager he built from the back. This was (imo) to instill confidence in the team and doubt in our opponents belief that they could break us down. It worked brilliantly.

Strangely enough I believe that qualifying for the CL was almost a secondary aim. Although I fully appreciate the statement of intent cementing 3rd place really meant. The most important part was to make us the team that no one wanted to play. After achieving that it was only ever going to be a natural progression that we would begin to rack up results. Fast forward to the last 5-6 games of last season and with our new found belief that our defence really was THAT good, Mancini began developing the next phase.

We finished last season like a steam train and with the players we brought in our team, (and Mancinis vision) is almost complete. IMO we wont see the best out of this team just yet, a few more games together and we will see a lot more cohesion and understanding between players. Were just beginning to see that now and dare I say it the prospect is nothing short of mouthwatering.

Were on our best run in the top flight since 1973, time to say thank you to Mancini methinks...

Me too.
Not that I don't think Mancini isn't class - he clearly is.
it's just that I don't think we'll win the PL or the CL this season. It takes a season and a half for players to really bed in.
The proof of the pudding is two fold:
[1] When we play the rags, Chelsea and Liverpool. Can we put away a high number of the chances we create? Can we lose the bare minimum of these games?
[2] When we fall behind away at Stoke, Wolves, WBA etc and when we play Everton. Can we roll up our sleeves and fight back?

I don't think our defence is good enough at centre half and left back. Lescott and Kolo are just not good enough to play first choice centre half in a really top team that is less defensively minded (far too often they are caught in two minds). Clichey is great going forward but defensively he's a huge question mark. Kolarov is probably better at defending but not so good going forward. We could also do with cover for DM (though I suspect Barry, YaYa and DJ will play this roll this season).

As I say lose or draw aganst teams we should beat and the knives will be out from the usual suspects. Totally unjustified of course but out they will be. They just can't resist it.

I dont think we will win the PL or CL this season, we will do well im convinced of it, but in the next few seasons then definately.

Any idiot can put together a squad full of world class players, but it takes a truly brilliant manager to make that squad of world class players play as not just a unit but as a team as well...

It'll be pretty boring for you since your entire WUM scthick is based around the totally false assertion that there are people on the forum who've got agendas against Mancini. As the team improves and results improve, I imagine you'll quietly fuck off and find some other poor club's forum to infect with your shite...

elegant as usual , bravo !

Pearce and Keegan were top after 3 games, Peter Reid too.

Mancini is second, Mancini out!

Some great points made in this thread and while we don't need to start fellating each other just yet, it is worth bearing in mind that Mancini has done all of this whilst maintaining the best hair in the premier league.

The other factor is of course, just wait until the SCARF returns as winter draws in!!!!

HOLY SMOKES!!!!

Regarding Mancini, the ends have justified the means.......

I was never a Ericsson in or outer, I was never a Hughes in or outer and I have never been a Mancini in or outer either, the one thing I would ask all Blues to remember is not to make our financial windfall turn us into a carbon copy of a typical Rag supporter.

I implore that if any of you feel as if you are being infected with their arrogant, puss filled demeanour, just remember the bad days of Frontzeck, Conlon etc and think where we are today.

The difficult takes time, the impossible takes just that little bit longer. If Mancini has proved anything its that even the best coaches even with all the riches in the world at their disposal need time to achieve their goals. Hopefully this is an important lesson that we have now all learned and it will stand us all in good stead for the years to come.

Looking at Mancini as a player and a manager, there was never anything to suggest he was a defensive manager. What time has proved is that Mancini has rebuilt our squad from the bottom up, first making us defensively solid and hard to beat and now making us hard to contain as an attacking and creative force now he has the quality of players in place to achieve this!!

What I've loved the most about Mancini is even with our brilliant performances so far this season, he has brought us all back down to earth by pointing out that of the 3 goals that we have conceded so far in the Premiership this season, 2 of them were very poor and this is what he is going to turn his attention to. Having heard those statements, those who have doubted Mancini's quality as a coach should be left in no doubt that our great club is safe in his hands for now. As I've already stated; the ends have justified Mancini's means........

PS: I also believe we should also give Mancini the extra responsibility that he wants and we should start negotiating with him from now for a contract extension.

Great post.

I was thinking that the other day about his contract. The club need to get him secured on a longer deal now as I believe he's got less than two years to go on his current one.

Is anyone who has even a passing knowledge of Mancini the player and the wealth of attacking talent in our squad really surprised by the way we've played so far this season? It was clear to me that we would see a much more expansive style of play now RM's position is unassailable.

A highly intelligent and tactical man he has played an absolute fucking blinder as far as I'm concerned. I have no doubt whatsoever that he will win Manager of the Year this season.
