Its all gone very quiet from Yaya's end dont you think?

Perhaps he has taken time to properly mourn the loss of his brother and reflect on things in a meaningful way.

Or perhaps he's realised no-one wants him for the money we're asking and he's better staying put.

Or perhaps he's been offered a new contract...

I'm sure Mr Moon has posted information on here before that's been correct......

Since when is the homegrown quota a one season sanction?! It's a long term issue that we and many clubs have, especially the better clubs given the lack of quality homegrown players.

We are already struggling to fill our quota, especially given the likes of Sinclair, Rodwell and Micah are set to leave. If we then sell Milner, I fail to see why the club would replace him with another foreign player. Of course, in an ideal world we would all want that, but that would just add to the homegrown issue that we currently have.

Replacing him with Walcott for example, is plausible, players like Di Maria - no chance. Unless we sell a foreign player as well as Milner, but even then we'd be short on the homegrown front.

Educate me if I am wrong and i'll take it back.

So basically your argument is that because of the HG quota, if Milner leaves he'll be replaced by a HG player. I don't agree and I still think you're wrong. As I've said, if City cannot replace Milner with a HG player because there isn't a good enough one out there, they will buy a foreign one. Milner made 31 league appearances - that isn't a small amount. A player who makes a contribution on that level, if he leaves, MUST be replaced otherwise the team goes backwards.

Of course the ideal is you wait until next summer because then there's no financial limit on who you can buy to replace him. However if he demands to leave this summer and the right offer comes in, then City will go back into the market and they will have their targets. And going back to the beginning of our exchange. It'll be someone like Di Maria. What we won't be doing is signing Scott Sinclair because he's English, or not replacing Milner because of our issue with HG players.

Hi there. Seems you have got quite a few rounds with this replace HG with foreign nonsense. Let me just list down why it wouldn't be possible in the way you are suggesting

PL rules state that you can have a maximum squad size of 25 player over the age of 21, with a maximum of 17 foreign players and at least 8 HG (association trained) players. That is, you can have 17 players from any association who are over the age of 21 and after t hat your player must be Homegrown. Now for e.g., Nastasic is foreign but b/c he was under 21, and for this season as he turns 21 this year, he doesn't have to be registered, so he does not make a name in that list.

CL rules state that you can have a maximum squad size of 25 player over the age of 21, with a maximum of 17 foreign players, at least 4 HG association trained, and at least 4 HG club trained players. Also, player under the age of 21 who have spent 2 or more years at the club are exepmt from the list. Nastasic was on the last the last two years, this year he won't be, but next year again he will.

As for the sanctions, its now like 16 foreign + 4 association trained + 1 club trained for this year.

The maximum number of HG players for either case is not fixed. For e.g., a Club trained player is automatically a AT player. You can also have a HG player in the 17 man foreign slot. Think of those 17 slots as free slots, anyone can take them.

Now look at the players we have (assuming we sign 1 of Benatia or Managala)
Foreign:
Willy
Sagna
Zabaleta
Kompany
Benatia or Mangala
Demichelses
Kolarov
Fernando
Garcia
Toure
Fernandinho
Navas
Nasri
Silva
Jovetic
Dzeko
Negredo
Aguero

Not listed for this year:
Nastasic

Homegrown (AT):
Hart
Milner
Clichy
Rodwell
Wright
Sinclair

HG (CT):
Guidetti
Boyata
Richards

Thats 18 foreign players, soon to be 19! We can't list 1( soon to be two as next year (2015-16 season) Nastasic will have to be listed as a foreign player in both CL and PL) of them, so they will have to leave regardless.

Now pray tell me, if you sell Milner, how will you replace him with non HG as all those spots are filled?

Regarding the ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Theres no reason why we couldn't sell Milner and Garcia and replace him with Di Maria or a foreign equivalent

We would be replacing two squad players with a potential first choice player

First, budget (for this season).

Second, squad space. You'll have to sell 2 foreign players (not Milner) before you can think about Di Maria. Its 18 now, we can list 17, so to get Di MAria, we have to sell 2 foreign players.

Third, squad balance. Unless you trust that Fernando, Fernandinho, and Yaya (not counting the perennially injured Rodwell) are enough for 2 (and sometimes 3) CM positions for the whole year.

IMO we are a bit striker heavy, a striker for an AM or a wide forward would have been a good move but alas, sanctions!

Look at it from the other point of view. Do you think it's conceivable that City will be forced to sell Milner because he's threatening to leave on a free? If you think that is conceivable then what do you think City will do next? I mean with regards to actually having a player to take Milner's place in the squad (baring in mind the games he's played). Lopes has gone on loan. He was the obvious player who could've filled Milner's HG quota AND taken his place in the squad. There's nobody as far as I'm aware in the EDS who's ready to step up and take his position.

Milner won't be sold, he may be allowed to leave for free next season. Even if we sell him, we won't have enough money to buy a replacement, whether HG or foreign. Btw why do you want Milner to go so much. Hard worker, so versatile, rarely gets injured, HOMEGROWN, ideal squad player.

Also, he might not like it, but he is no Yaya. More like Tevez in that aspect that when on the pitch he will put in all effort.

Why do you choose to ignore the fact that we don't have space in the squad as thing stand for a foreign replacement?

The basic issue here is we have a difference of opinion regarding the importance of the HG quota. You think I am wrong - i'm not. The fact is selling Milner and replacing him with a foreign player has consequences to our HG quota. That is a simple fact and that is my argument.

Your argument is you believe we will sell a HG player and replace him with a foreign player. Let's ignore Di Maria or any other names, that's irrelevant at the moment.

I don't see how, going off your theory and on the basis we sell Sinclair, Rodwell and Richards, we can maintain the same squad size for each competition, meet the quota requirements, and maintain a similar level of ability in the squad (i,e not just declare a load of the EDS lads in the quota).

Each way I look at it, we have to replace HG players that we sell with other HG players, especially ones as prominent in the first team squad as Milner. Otherwise we will have to name a squad of about 20 (guessing) rather than 25.

You don't think Milner will be sold, and we'll let him go on a free. Fair enough.

I actually don't want him to go at all. However it looks and sounds like he REALLY wants to leave and has asked the club to allow him to leave AND told them he won't sign a new contract.

I'm not ignoring the fact that we don't have space for another foreign player, I'm looking at the other foreign players in the squad and making an educated guess that one or two will be leaving over the coming 12 months. On that basis since my opinion is that it's possible Milner will leave this summer, I'd hazard a guess that he'll be replaced by a foreign player this summer.

Just to give you one simple hypothetical. Since we've signed Fernando, why wouldn't we sell Garcia rather than Rodwell. Garcia is being valued at around 15 million pounds. If he were to go, and Milner were to go for the mooted 10 million then we're at the point where financially we can do a deal for a very good player to come in.
