Yeah, it's a bit awkward to get there. A by-election maybe, and earlier in the week Clive Lewis got talked into admitting he'd give up his seat to let Burnham have a safe seat run. Burnham would be nearly 60 at the next GE.

I'm not sure a 13,000 majority in Norwich South is a safe seat in a by-election called just to let a northerner challenge the sitting PM.

I did wonder why they were talking about Norwich, that's where Lewis' seat is, is it?

It was just another gotcha set-up.

Personally, imho, they are all STILL just as weak as each other, and the prospect of any of them succeeding Starmer and becoming P.M. fills me with horror - as much as I dislike Starmer, I fear that Burnham would just roll out the red carpet for Farrage or one of his oiks to take us on a racist Trumpian ride to dystopia.

A Burnham leadership coup would guarantee Farage as PM, Labour under Starmer is the only chance of stopping that crew.

Andy Burnham isn't plotting a coup. He's facing questions about a leadership challenge from the media and he's dammed with whatever reply he gives.

He's not an MP. He can't.

It's a ridiculous suggestion.

one thing to note, the last mayoral election barely hit 30% turnout....so, whoever can get voters out would win!

I know Starmer has shit it a bit, but one of the reasons given for not allowing Burnham to leave the mayoral post is the threat of reform winning the by election
63% of the turnout last time voted Labour, but as pointed out, there was only a 30% turnout
If it became voter apathy and disgruntlement, is it realistic that reform would be in with a chance?
 
Manchester and Greater Manchester seem to be doing pretty well judging by the financial reports coming from reputable sources. Seems a bit daft to change the key personnel just because you don’t like the colour of their rosettes. But we’re in a world where one side likes to chip away and use childish slurs against the other so that the largely uninformed electorate start to parrot it without knowing the facts or asking questions like “How would you do it differently?” or “What’s your experience?”.

That’s how the yanks have ended up where they are now!
